Classical singer KATHERINE JENKINS came under fire from animal rights activists as she opened the winter sale at luxury London department store Harrods - because the retailer sells fur.

The Welsh star, 28, was booed as she arrived at the famous store in London's Knightsbridge on Saturday (27Dec08) to officially open the post-Christmas sales.
Anti-animal cruelty advocates took to the street outside and hurled abuse at Jenkins as she stepped down from a horse-drawn carriage to be met by the store's owner Mohamed Al Fayed.
Campaigners picketed the roadside and shouted "Shame on Katherine" as the star was quickly ushered inside.
John Wilson, from the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade, told the BBC, "We are gathered here today because of our disgust at Ms. Jenkins who professes to be against animal cruelty and the fur trade."
However, Jenkins - who posed with puppies at the event - insists she sticks by her anti-cruelty views: "Personally I do not eat meat or wear fur, but people are entitled to their opinions."
Harrods is a well-known target of animal rights groups as it is reportedly the only remaining U.K. department store to sell goods made from fur.
Earlier this year (08), singer Leona Lewis turned down $1.5 million (GBP1 million) from the luxury London retailer to open its summer sale, insisting she didn't want to be associated with stores which continued to stock fur.
