American author JULIUS FAST has died, aged 89.
Fast, who published his biography The Beatles: The Real Story in 1968, died on Tuesday (16Dec08) in Kingston, New York; he had lived in Manhattan until suffering a stroke in 2007.
The acclaimed mystery novelist's other noted tomes include Walk in Shadow and A Model for Murder.
Fast's diverse interests led him to later cover health and human relationships in books including Body Language, Body Politics and The Body Book.
But it was his first book, Watchful at Night, which won him the inaugural Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1946, given by the Mystery Writers of America for a best first novel.
Fast is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Melissa, a son, Timothy, and five grandchildren.
