LATE OPERA STAR HONOURED WITH TOP MUSIC PRIZE

Late opera star BIRGIT NILSSON is to be honoured with a new music prize.

The inaugural Nilsson Classical Music Prize will be handed out to a leading opera or classical music star early next year (09).

The $1 million (GBP666,000) award will be the largest in the history of classical music.

Nilsson died on Christmas Day (25Dec) in 2005.
