BRITS LEAD GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

British artists are leading the way at the upcoming Grammy Awards - acts including COLDPLAY, RADIOHEAD, LEONA LEWIS, ADELE and DUFFY have all received nominations for next year (09)'s ceremony.

Coldplay's Viva la Vida and Radiohead's In Rainbows will go up against Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III, Ne-Yo's Year of the Gentleman and Robert Plant and Allison Krauss' Raising Sand in the Album Of The Year category.

Lewis' hit single Bleeding Love will compete in the Record of the Year category against Adele's Chasing Pavements, Coldplay's Viva La Vida, M.I.A.'s Paper Planes and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Please Read The Letter.

British pop star Adele is also nominated for Best New Artist along with soul singer Duffy, The Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum and Jazmine Sullivan.

Best Pop Collaboration will be fought out by Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland's hit track Four Minutes, Alicia Keys and John Mayer's Lessons Learned, Robert Plant and Allison Krauss with Rich Woman, Rihanna and Maroon 5's If I Never See Your Face Again and Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's duet No Air.

The nominees for Best Rock Album are Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Kid Rock's Rock N Roll Jesus, Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night, Metallica's Death Magnetic and Consolers Of The Lonely by The Raconteurs.

The hip-hop stars who will be fighting it out for Best Rap Album include Jay-Z for American Gangster , Lil Wayne with Tha Carter III, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, Paper Trail by T.I. and Nas with his self-titled LP.

Wednesday night's (03Nov08) nominations concert, held in Los Angeles, was hosted by country star Taylor Swift and rapper LL Cool J. The event saw performances from artists including Foo Fighters, who covered Carly Simon's classic You're So Vain, Mariah Carey who performed Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and Christina Aguilera, who sang a version of (I Love You) Porgy from the famous Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess .

The Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on 8 February 2009.
