DR PEPPER: 'NO APOLOGY FOR GUNS N' ROSES'

Bosses at soft drinks giant Dr. Pepper have refused to apologise to GUNS N' ROSES for the debacle over their recent giveaway with the rockers' new album CHINESE DEMOCRACY.

Executives refused to believe the band would release their long awaited LP this year (08), and offered to hand out free cans of soda to every U.S. citizen if the record hit shelves before 2009.

The group released the album last month (Nov08) after a 15-year wait, and company bosses were forced to keep their promise.

Dr. Pepper chiefs set up an internet scheme which encouraged people to register at the brand's website on the day of the LP's release (23Nov08) to claim a coupon redeemable for a can of pop.

But the huge demand crashed the site's servers and left many fans without their vouchers. The scheme was extended for another day because of the problems, but lawyers for the band insisted the give away was not good enough - and demanded an apology.

And now the drinks manufacturer has hit out at the group, accusing them of ruining the spirit of the campaign.

A statement from Dr. Pepper reads, "We are disappointed that GN'R's lawyers are turning a fun giveaway into a legal dispute. We simply commented on the delayed release of Chinese Democracy and openly encouraged the band to release it before the end of the year.

"Axl (Rose, frontman) even expressed support for our efforts earlier in the year. This was one of the largest responses we have ever received for a giveaway, and we're happy we were able to satisfy the thirst of so many Dr. Pepper fans. We wish Guns N' Roses the best with their album."
