JACKSON'S SHEIKH SUIT SETTLED 'AMICABLY'

The lawsuit brought against MICHAEL JACKSON by an Arab sheikh over allegations the pop superstar breached a contract was settled 'amicably', according to a joint statement released by their legal teams.

Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain filed a suit alleging he is owed a $7 million (GBP4.6 million) advance on an album and autobiography deal that Jackson never honoured.

Jackson was about to board a plane in order to attend a hearing at London's High Court on Monday (24Nov08) to testify in the case, but he was advised not to fly to the British capital after his lawyers made a last minute deal with the sheikh's legal advisors.

And the settlement, of which details have not been released, was an amicable one, despite sheikh Abdulla's claims that he wasted $2.2 million (GBP1.5 million) on studio time for Jackson. He also claimed to have financed the Thriller hitmaker's lavish and bizarre lifestyle when he fled to Bahrain after he was acquitted of child sexual molestations in 2005.

In the joint statement, the two parties say, "Sheikh Abdulla and Michael Jackson are pleased to confirm that they have amicably settled their dispute.

"They wish each other well in their own, respective endeavours,"
