THE VINES SCRAP SHOWS TO SAVE FRONTMAN'S MENTAL HEALTH

Australian rockers THE VINES have been forced to cancel a string of concert dates amid fears over the state of their frontman's mental health.

Vocalist and guitarist Craig Nicholls has been forced to seek professional help in order to combat his mental health problems.

The rocker suffers from Asperger's Syndrome - a type of autism which hampers a sufferer's social interaction skills and restricts empathy for others.

The band have scrapped all gigs for the foreseeable future - in a bid to get the musician on the road to recovery.

A statement on the band's website says, "Craig Nicholls' mental condition has deteriorated extremely rapidly over the past month to the point where he requires immediate help over an extended period of time.

"We are all absolutely devastated that we've been forced to cancel all upcoming shows as there's nothing we love more than playing on stage before an enthusiastic audience. We ask for your understanding in this situation."

The group have so far cancelled their Homebake, Pyramid Rock and Big Day Out festival dates in Australia, as well as their forthcoming Japanese tour scheduled for late November (08).
