JIMI HENDRIX's former drummer MITCH MICHELL has been found dead in a Portland, Oregon hotel. He was 61.
Mitchell, whose real name was John Mitchell, backed Hendrix in the Jimi Hendrix Experience from 1966 to 1969, and also supported the guitar great at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.
He is believed to have died from natural causes.
His body was found at the Benson Hotel early on Wednesday morning (12Nov08). Mitchell was on tour with the Experience Hendrix tribute tour, which also featured former Hendrix bass player Billy Cox, who is now the last surviving member of the influential rock group.
Mitchell, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, is considered a major influence on drumming greats.
He's considered one of the greatest drummers ever.
