THE WHO WILL LAUNCH 2009 AUSSIE GRAND PRIX

British rock legends THE WHO will kick off the 2009 Formula One motor racing season with a roaring performance at the Australian Grand Prix next March (09).

The Baba O'Riley band will open the grandstand event with a concert at Melbourne's Albert Park Circuit.

The opening day gig is a regular event, with Deep Purple and Kiss headlining previous years.

Zara Lawless, the CEO of the Aussie event, says, "Few bands can lay claim to being among rock royalty, but British rock gods The Who must surely feature on any list of the best bands of all-time. Last year, an estimated 65,000 people stuck around after the big race to see a full, two-hour concert extravaganza from Kiss. If you thought that was big, I urge you to get along to next year's Grand Prix to be part of an event that people will talk about for years to come".

The news comes a day after Brit Lewis Hamilton became the youngest ever Formula One World champ after finishing fifth at Sunday's (02Nov08) Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton, 23, was cheered on by his girlfriend, Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger.
