GUNS N' ROSES LEAKER PLEADS NOT GUILTY

The Californian charged with leaking new GUNS N' ROSES album tracks has pleaded not guilty to illegally distributing copyrighted music.

Kevin Cogill, 27, hit the headlines this summer (Jun08) when he posted tracks from the rock band's new Chinese Democracy album on his Antiquiet.com website.

He was arrested in August (08) and charged with a felony under the federal anti-piracy law.

Cogill, who once worked in distribution for the group's record label, says he received the leaked tracks from an anonymous source, and agreed to pull the tracks from his website when a representative from the band contacted him personally.

If convicted, he faces a possible five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 (GBP145,300) fine.

Assistant U.S. attorney Craig Missakian, who is leading the case against Cogill, told the court on Monday (20Oct08), "In the past, these may have been viewed as victimless crimes. But in reality, there's significant damage."
