MADONNA + RITCHIE DIVORCE STATEMENT 'IMMINENT'

Rumours about the state of MADONNA and GUY RITCHIE's marriage refuse to go away - a divorce announcement is imminent, according to U.K. tabloid reports.

The pop superstar and her filmmaker husband have been dogged by rumours their eight-year marriage is coming to an end since the beginning of the year (08).

The couple have vehemently denied the speculation, insisting they had no plans to split.

Now, British newspaper The Sun claims the pair are soon to announce their divorce, after failing to stick out their relationship until after Madonna finishes her Sweet + Sticky world tour later this year (08).

The publication's report mirrors similar rumours circulating in the summer (08), which suggested Madonna and Ritchie would make news of their split public once the singer had completed all her tour dates.

A source tells the The Sun, "Despite huge attempts to patch things up they both knew deep down that divorce was on the cards. It wasn't a matter of 'if' but 'when'.

"They tried hard over the last few months but their fighting was getting out of control."
