The Crazy In Love hitmaker is the first big act to be announced by MTV bosses to be one of the main performers at the ceremony in Liverpool, England.

It is expected the singer will perform her forthcoming singles If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies, which are released simultaneously in October (08).

The tracks are from the star's as-yet-untitled third solo album.

And the singer will be battling it out in the Best Urban category against Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne.

Beyonce has performed at the awards before - she wowed fans at the 2003 MTV EMAs in Edinburgh, Scotland with a show-stopping rendition of Baby Boy.

The winners of this year's (08) gongs will be unveiled on 6 November.
