THE WOMEN
Cast: Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett, Meg Ryan
Synopsis: Based on George Cukor’s 1939 film and Clare Boothe Luce’s 1936 stage play, THE WOMEN whisks us into a busy pocket of Manhattan society, where the publishing, fashion and finance industries play. At the center of the tale is Ryan’s character, Mary Haines, a thoroughly modern woman suddenly confronted with an age-old dilemma: a cheating husband. The ladies in her life swiftly rally to Mary’s side, led by her best friend, Sylvie Fowler, a dynamic magazine editor played by Bening. But when Sylvie betrays Mary in a Faustian bargain, the entire group is shaken to the core – and two women face the most painful breakup of all - their friendship.
BURN AFTER READING
Cast: Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton
Synopsis: At the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency in Arlington, VA, analyst Osbourne Cox (John Malkovich) arrives for a top-secret meeting. Unfortunately for Cox, the secret is soon out; he is being ousted. Cox does not take the news particularly well and returns to his Georgetown home to work on his memoirs and his drinking, not necessarily in that order. His wife Katie (Tilda Swinton) is dismayed, though not particularly surprised; she is already well into an illicit affair with Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney), a married federal marshal, and sets about making plans to leave Cox for Harry.
Elsewhere in the Washington, D.C. sububrs, and seemingly worlds aprart, Hardbodies Fitnesss Centers employee Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) can barely concentrate on her work. She is consumed with her life plan for extensive cosmetic surgery, and confides her mission to can-do colleague Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt). Linda is all but oblivious to the fact that the gym's manager Ted Treffon (Richard Jenkins) pines for her even as she arranges dates via the internet with other men.
When a computer disc containing material for the CIA analyst's memoirs accidentally falls into the hands of Linda and Chad, the duo are intent on exploiting their find. As Ted frets, 'No good can come of this,' events spiral out of everyone's and anyone's control, in a cascading series of darkly hilarious encounters.
TYLER PERRY'S THE FAMILY THAT PREYS
Cast: Jennifer Hudson, Kathy Bates, Sanaa Lathan, Tyler Perry, Alfre Woodard
Synopsis: Wealthy socialite Charlotte Cartwright (Kathy Bates) and her dear friend Alice Pratt (Alfre Woodard), a working class woman of high ideals, have enjoyed a lasting friendship throughout many years. Suddenly, their lives become mired in turmoil as their adult children's extramarital affairs, unethical business practices and a dark paternity secret threaten to derail family fortunes and unravel the lives of all involved. Alice's self-centered newlywed daughter Andrea (Sanaa Lathan) is betraying her trusting husband Chris (Rockmond Dunbar) by engaging in a torrid affair with her boss and mother's best friend's son William (Cole Hauser). While cheating on his wife Jillian (KaDee Strickland) with a string of ongoing dalliances with his mistress Andrea, William's true focus is to replace the COO of his mother's lucrative construction corporation. Meanwhile, Alice's other daughter Pam (Taraji P. Henson), a kind but no nonsense woman married to a hard working construction worker (Tyler Perry), tries to steer the family in a more positive direction.
RIGHTEOUS KILL
Cast: Al Pacino, Carla Gugino, Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo, Robert De Niro
Synopsis: A serial murderer walks the streets of Manhattan, targeting violent felons who have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. All the victims are suspected criminals whose bodies are found accompanied by a four-line poem justifying the killing. The killer's mission is to do what the cops can't do on their own-take the bad guys off the streets for good.
When a notorious pimp becomes one of the killer's victims, highly decorated detectives Turk (Robert De Niro) and Rooster (Al Pacino) are called in to investigate. This case could easily be the biggest one in their 30 years on the force.
With the unwitting help of a local drug dealer (played by Curtis Jackson) the detectives follow what few clues they have, but their search soon turns inward, eventually leading them full circle as they realize the killer may be one of their own.
