DOC WALKER TRIUMPH AT COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS

DOC WALKER swept the board at the 2008 Canadian Country Music Awards on Monday night (08Sep08).

The country band walked away with five gongs including single and album of the year at the event in Winnipeg.

They also took away awards for the coveted group of the year, as well as the video of the year and the Fans Choice award.

And lead singer Chris Thorsteinson dedicated the band's nod for single of the year to his mother Betty, saying: "This one here I'm going to dedicate to my mom. Unfortunately, it was the last song she ever heard us play before she passed away and couldn't make it this year. I'm sure she's here somewhere watching. For me, this one goes out to Betty."

After the ceremony, he added, "It's definitely probably the most overwhelming thing that I've ever experienced in my life. You hope to get one or two. When something like this happens . . . it overwhelms you."

Performers on the night included Johnny Reid, host Terri Clark and Randy Bachman.

The night's winners were:

Fans' Choice - Doc Walker

Single of the Year - Beautiful Life by Doc Walker

Album of the Year - Beautiful Life by Doc Walker

Video of the Year - Beautiful Life by Doc Walker

Female Artist of the Year - Jessie Farrell

Male Artist of the Year - Johnny Reid

Group of the Year - Doc Walker
