FELON

Synopsis: A loving family man with a promising future, Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) suddenly loses everything when he accidentally kills the burglar who broke into his home. Convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Wade is sentenced to spend the next three years inside a maximum security facility where the rules of society no longer apply. Forced to share a cell with a notorious mass murderer (Val Kilmer) and subjected to brutal beatings orchestrated by the sadistic head prison guard (Harold Perrineau), Wade soon realizes he's in for the fight of his life and must become the thoughest Felon of them all if he's to survive the block. For what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. And in state prison, only the strongest will survive.

Synopsis: Marianne Faithfull stars as Maggie, a middle-aged widow who, desperate to raise money to pay for her grandson`s medical bills, takes a hostess job in a sex club. She soon transforms herself into the much sought after and highly paid “Irina Palm.” Along with her new persona, Maggie gains renewed self-confidence, realizing she is not as old and unattractive as she thought. But her two worlds collide as her clandestine existence provokes the suspicions of her family and inquisitive neighbors alike.
IRINA PALM had its international premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival 2007, where it screened in main competition.

SMART PEOPLE

Synopsis: Professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) might be imperiously brilliant, monumentally self-possessed and an intellectual giant – but when it comes to solving the conundrums of love and family, he's as downright flummoxed as the next guy. His teenaged daughter (Ellen Page) is an acid-tongued overachiever who follows all too closely in dad's misery-loving footsteps, and his adopted, preposterously ne'er-do-well brother (Thomas Haden Church) has perfected the art of freeloading. A widower who can't seem to find passion in anything anymore, not even the Victorian Literature in which he's an expert, it seems Lawrence is sleepwalking through a very stunted middle age. When his brother shows up unexpectedly for an extended stay at just about the same time as he accidentally encounters his former student Janet (Sarah Jessica Parker), the circumstances cause him to stir from his deep, deep freeze, with often comical, sometimes heartbreaking, consequences for himself and everyone around him.

HOW THE GARCIA GIRLS SPENT THEIR SUMMER

Synopsis: What does female desire look like? And how do self-inflicted limitations and social expectations shade and color it? In her tenderly comic, richly textured feature debut, Georgina Garcia Riedel lovingly explores the terrain of longing, loneliness, and self-realization among three generations of single women in a Mexican American family as they grapple with romantic drought.
As sweltering summer stretches over a sun-bleached Arizona border town, Doña Genoveva (Lucy Gallardo), the Garcia family matriarch, decides to buy a car. The only catch is that she doesn't know how to drive. When she enlists Don Pedro's pedagogical skills, sparks begin to fly--at her house and beyond. Her daughter, Lolita, played with deadpan poignancy by Elizabeth Peña, seems to have hit a dry spell until things start to sizzle at the butcher shop where she works. Meanwhile, Lolita's teenage daughter, Blanca, a radiant America Ferrera (REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES), engineers an awakening all her own. It's as if the languid heat wave has thawed everyone's defenses and jump-started a sexual revolution.
Like the folks in the story, Riedel's camera never hurries, savoring the poetic vistas and lazy rhythms of the rural Southwest without resorting to sentimentality. Her three heroines are utterly human--full of idiosyncrasies and unexpected charms. In each of them is a distinctive, newly discovered sensuality, an engine that drives them forward, kicking up dust as they go.

BRAND UPON THE BRAIN

Synopsis: In the weird and wonderful supercinematic world of Canadian cult filmmaker Guy Maddin, personal memory collides with movie lore for a radical sensory overload. This eerie excursion into the Gothic recesses of Maddin’s mad, imaginary childhood is a silent, black-and-white comic science-fiction nightmare set in a lighthouse on grim Black Notch Island, where fictional protagonist Guy Maddin was raised by an ironfisted, puritanical mother. Originally mounted as a theatrical event (accompanied by live orchestra, Foley artists, and assorted narrators), Brand upon the Brain! is an irreverent, delirious trip into the mind of one of current cinema’s true eccentrics.

WATCHING THE DETECTIVES

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Lucy Liu, Ali Reza, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Mark Harelik

Synopsis: Neil, a self proclaimed film geek and owner of Gumshoe video, has always been content to live vicariously through his favorite film noirs. But when he meets Violet, a real-life femme fatale, his mundane world gets turned upside down and the line between reality and the movies quickly begins to blur. Will Neil step up and embrace a life full of adventure or retreat back to his comfortable couch?

THE SEARCH FOR JOHN GISSING

Cast: Alan Rickman, Janeane Garofalo, Allan Corduner, Mike Binder, Juliet Stevenson

Synopsis: After his corporate career finds him transferred to London, Matthew Barnes (Binder) and his wife (Garofalo) are taken for a ride by John Gissing (Rickman), the associate he has unknowingly come to replace.
Refusing to be pushed out, Gissing intentionally misguides the couple, leaving them stranded in a foreign country, broke, homeless, and continuously finding themselves in the most awkward and troublesome of situations.
The couple strikes back when Gissing's mischievous scheme is revealed, turning matters into nothing less than pure comedic chaos.
