WOOD: 'WE ALL WANTED TO PLAY LIKE BO DIDDLEY'

ROLLING STONES star RON WOOD has paid tribute to late rock 'n' roll pioneer BO DIDDLEY, insisting every great guitarist wants to play like him.

Diddley, who toured with Wood in the Gunslingers 20 years ago, died from heart failure at his home in Florida on 2 June (08). He was 79.

And Wood admits it was a true pleasure to play with his hero and become a dear friend of Diddley's.

He says, "He'd lay down a monstrous locomotive beat; someone said it was like the devil moving furniture - and it would become the core ingredient of the song.

"Combine all that with Bo's knowledge of the Deep South and Chicago blues and it's clear why we all wanted to play like him."

Diddley enjoyed a rocking send-off in Florida on 6 June (08) as a gospel band performed his eponymous hit Hey, Bo Diddley.
