SEINFELD LAWYER HITS OUT AT COOK'S 'BOGUS' LAWSUIT

U.S. comic JERRY SEINFIELD's lawyer has hit out at the suit filed by U.S. chef MISSY CHASE LAPINE - branding the case 'bogus'.

Lapine sued Seinfeld's wife Jessica in January (08), stating her best selling cookbook Deceptively Delicious "brazenly plagiarised" her own book The Sneaky Chef.

Both books describe how to hide healthy ingredients in children's foods.

And after hearing of the legal action, Seinfeld appeared on U.S. TV show The Late Show and made jokes about the "vegetable plagiarism" facing the pair.

Lapine added a defamation charge against funnyman Seinfeld over comments he made.

And the star's legal team insist the comments were all to be taken in good humour, as Seinfeld is a well-known comedian and therefore is expected to be funny when being interviewed, and dismiss the lawsuit filed by Lapine as "absurd".

Seinfeld's lawyer Orin Snyder tells America's E! news, "Nobody who was listening to Jerry Seinfeld thought he was doing anything but making very funny jokes. Nobody believed him to be stating facts.

"Everyone understood him to be doing what he has done so well for so many years, which was telling jokes and entertaining. So the claim against him is frivolous and we have asked the court to dismiss it too."

And Snyder insists the suit against the Seinfeld's is ridiculous, stating he find's it shocking Lapine believes she owns the copyright over age-old recipes.

He adds, "This is a bogus lawsuit. It is absurd that this plaintiff would try to take credit for the idea of hiding healthy food in kids' meals. People have been using this obvious cooking technique in their kitchens for generations. Not surprisingly, it is easy to find countless other cookbooks and articles using this age-old idea that were written decades before this plaintiff claims to have invented it."
