LUCIEN FREUD's portrait SUE became the world's most expensive piece by a living artist on Tuesday (13May08) when it sold at auction in New York for $33.6 million (GBP16.8 million).
The 1995 painting by the 85-year-old Brit was one of eight art auction records broken at the Christie's sale.
The highlight of the night was a 1952 Math Rothko painting, which went under the hammer for a staggering $50.4 million (GBP25.2 million).
