British rockers COLDPLAY refused to speak to one another before they began work on their new album - because they'd fallen out with each other.
CHRIS MARTIN and JONNY BUCKLAND of Coldplay
Frontman Chris Martin admits he and his bandmates were at a stalemate when they started to work on Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends in 2006.
But the four musicians managed to enlist the help of superproducer Brian Eno, who Martin credits with helping to get their sound - and relationships - back on track.
He says, "The place we got to two years ago felt dirty. We weren't speaking. We all had our corner office in a tower block, but there was no vibe.
"We had to get our own place and then call Brian in. We decided to play in a little room, forget our awards and reviews."

British rockers OASIS have recruited drummer CHRIS SHARROCK to the band - after poaching him from rival ROBBIE WILLIAMS.
NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER of Oasis
The Some Might Say allegedly sacked drummer Zac Starkey, son of former Beatle Ringo Starr earlier this week (begs12May08), but have now hired Sharrock as his replacement.
But the move could reignite a long-running war of words between Williams and Oasis.
A source tells British newspaper the Mirror, "Oasis and Robbie have an ongoing feud. This move is sure to infuriate Robbie.
"Everyone thinks Chris has had enough of sitting on the picket line and not playing music. Oasis aren't striking against anyone so at least he'll be getting a bit of action now."
Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE has been immortalised in bronze for an art exhibition in London.
AMY WINEHOUSE
The work, by British artist Guy Portelli, shows the Back To Black singer sitting on a broken champagne bottle, holding a glass and covered in what appears to be pills.
But Portelli insists the work is not a negative representation of Winehouse.
He says, "I would never make a sculpture of someone I didn't respect."
The sculpture is on show at the Mall Galleries in London until 25 May (08).
THE KOOKS frontman LUKE PRITCHARD has hit out at the ARCTIC MONKEYS, branding them 'arrogant'.
Luke Pritchard of The Kooks performs live on stage at Brixton Academy. London, England - 02.05.08
The two bands fell out last year (07), when Arctic Monkey's frontman Alex Turner allegedly attempted to sabotage the band's instruments before a gig.
And Pritchard insists the groups are still feuding, despite his attempts to recently diffuse the situation by befriending Turner.
He says, "I saw them (Arctic Monkeys) recently in a studio and tried to patch things up. I asked Alex if he wanted to have a bit of a jam in the studio, but he just turned his back and walked away.
"I suppose they are quite arrogant - but who can blame them? They've got a lot going for them."
Actress ANNE HECHE has blamed the cancellation of TV series MEN IN TREES for her inability to pay child support.
ANNE HECHE
The star was granted a reprieve in the monthly payments of $14,978 (GBP7,489) to her ex-husband Coley Laffoon for their six-year-old son Homer.
But Heche has been ordered by a judge to provide up-to-date income and expense information for the case - as she claims she also can no longer afford to pay Homer's school fees, the mortgage on her house in Canada where Men In Trees was filmed, the rent on her California home, and car expenses.
In court papers, she says, "I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further,
"Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $65,000 (GBP32,500) approximately the amount I received for one episode of Men In Trees.
"I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working."

Man Raze is set to release their debut album Surreal on June 3, 2008, via VH1 Classic Records, with a US Tour to follow. The newly formed rock band includes Phil Collen of Def Leppard, Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols and Simon Laffy of Girl!
Mixing the raw energy of the Pistols mixed with the immaculate pop rock of Def Leppard, Man Raze is a unique clash of 70’s simplicity with 80’s excess, punk clubs with stadium rock. Whether it’s the punk vibrancy of “Turn It Up”, the beautiful rock craftsmanship of “Every Second Of Every Day” or the reggae-soaked dub mix of “Runnin’ Me Up”, Surreal is an album that continuously pumps out the rock hits that these three members are most notorious for.
Recently, Man Raze filmed a private show in Los Angeles that will premiere on VH1 Classic.com later this year. The band plans to launch a U.S. tour in 2008. “The fun part about Man Raze is that musically we can go off in any direction from rock to alternative the next,” said Phil Collen. We are looking forward to playing live this fall.”
Before joining Def Leppard, London born Phil Collen played in Girl, who were one of the great unsung UK rock acts of the early 80’s (singer Phil Lewis would later front LA Guns – who were at the vanguard of the LA sleaze rock scene that eventually produced Guns N Roses). While Phil went on to join Def Leppard he maintained a strong friendship with Simon Laffy, Girl’s bassist. Reconnecting in 2004, and joined by Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, Man Raze was born. Eschewing their illustrious past, the band have spent the past two year getting back to basics, writing and recording – they also played a sold out show at London’s Spitz Club and released a limited edition EP Skin Crawl in October 2005 on their own label, Surrealist Records in the UK. Actress JODIE FOSTER has split with her longterm partner CYDNEY BERNARD, according to U.S. tabloid reports.
CYDNEY BERNARD and JODIE FOSTER
The news comes just five months after the intensely private star paid tribute to her alleged partner of 14 years at an award ceremony.
The 45-year-old, who had never before acknowledged Bernard in public, gushed about her during an acceptance speech at a Los Angeles film gala in December (08).
Foster called her friend, "My beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through with me through the rotten and the bliss."
An insider tells the National Enquirer, "Jodie breaking up with Cydney is shocking. Right now it's the best kept secret in Hollywood, and it's not just because Jodie is legend and an intensely private person, either.
"She and Cydney have been together for so many years and have two children together, the potential fallout and legal wrangling from this split could be monumental."
The couple has two adopted children together; Charles, nine, and Kit, six.

Actress DENISE RICHARDS is desperate for her bitter ex-husband CHARLIE SHEEN to visit a mediator with her because she fears the former couple's silence is unhealthy for their daughters.
DENISE RICHARDS
The former Bond girl admits she and her ex "don't speak at all" and all the nastiness that came out during their "awful divorce" is still ever present.
But her feelings towards Sheen hit a new low when the actor refused to join his ex and their children at the memorial for his late mother-in-law, who lost her battle with cancer in November (07).
And he had no time to visit Richards' dying mother.
She says, "He said, 'I hope you die with her.' It was awful.
"That's (the kids') nana; my mom was the closest person to my girls after myself and Charlie. It's sad."
And after claiming Sheen cut off her child support last week because "he doesn't want my kids to have vaccines and shots," Richards insists it's time for the former couple to put their differences behind them for the sake of their daughters.
She adds, "It's a very conflicted divorce (and) it's not healthy for the children.
"I've tried to see if he (Sheen) would see a mediator and just put our stuff aside... This is about the girls, but there's nothing."
Richards reveals Sheen is so determined to have absolutely no contact with his former wife, he doesn't even pick his daughters up when it's his turn to have custody of them.
