UNDERWOOD JOINS GRAND OLE OPRY

Singer CARRIE UNDERWOOD is the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry after joining the country music mecca this weekend (begs10May08).

CARRIE UNDERWOOD

Underwood, 25, was formally inducted into the cast of the long-running music show on Saturday (10May08), when she was presented with an induction award - a 14-inch bronze replica of an Opry mic stand - from fellow Opry member Garth Brooks. She also sang a duet with country star Vince Gill.

Fighting back tears, she told the crowd: "This really seems like a great family to be part of. I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to not make you regret it."

Since winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood has scored six consecutive number ones on the U.S. country singles chart and sold 7 million copies of her debut album Some Hearts.
