FRANCE GETS A CINEMA SUPERHERO

A Frenchman is set to take on American comic book icons BATMAN and SUPERMAN with his country's first superhero, VENDOME.

David Tomaszewski's original creation Vendome - named after the Parisian square that houses the Ritz hotel - will next year (08) be the star of a feature film, which will see him battle villainous hunchback Quasimodo.

Tomaszewski, 23, says, "I thought: why can't we too have a superhero, a French one in our cinemas?

"I want to do something really French, not too inspired by (U.S. company) Marvel comics."

The movie will be loosely based on a low-budget short film shot by Tomaszewski, which has already been viewed online over 200,000 times.
