CAREY RAN AWAY FROM PROPOSAL
MARIAH CAREY was so taken aback by NICK CANNON's surprise proposal on the roof of her New York apartment, she ran away from him.

MARIAH CAREY

Cannon got down on bended knee as the pair was gazing at the Empire State Building, lit up in pink and purple to mark the release of Carey's new album E=MC2.

He presented her with a Ring Pop candy, but placed a 17-carat pink diamond inside the plastic casing and tied the whole thing up with ribbon. Carey admits she thought the plastic candy toy was broken when she first saw it and couldn't believe it when she realised her boyfriend was proposing.

Cannon recalls, "She ran away and got all shy."

She finally said yes and confirmed she'd marry the actor/rapper during a helicopter flight he had planned shortly after.

She tells People magazine, "That was beautiful."

GELDOF CURBS PEACHES WILD WAYS
LATEST: Rocker BOB GELDOF has made his troubled daughter PEACHES move back home - because she was surrounded by 'bad influences' at her pad in North London, according to reports.

Peaches Geldof at Vivienne Westwood: Active Resistance To Propaganda - photocall held at Design Museum. London, England - 02.05.08

The 19-year-old was quizzed by police after she was caught on tape buying drugs from Amy Winehouse's alleged dealer - but then escaped police charges for lack of evidence.

And because of her alleged drug-buying escapade, The Boomtown Rats star has laid down a list of rules for the teen to abide by.

A source tells British newspaper London Lite, "She will have to cut off all her mates who she has met recently, because Bob sees them as bad influences.

"She is not allowed to DJ for a while or go to many parties because she is worried that she could be led astray again.

"Her cash and credit cards have been taken away, so now she has to ask him for money to do anything."

It is not the first time the teen has been caught up in controversy. She was accused of shoplifting in October 2006 and caused a stir again last month (20Apr08) when she was blamed for stealing an expensive gown from London store Victim.

Director: Griffin Dunne
Cast: Colin Firth, Isabella Rossellini, Uma Thurman, Sam Shepard, Lindsay Sloane
Synopsis: The Accidental Husband centers on Emma (Uma Thurman) a successful but uptight relationship expert with a hit radio show and an upcoming book. She is serious and sensible about the issue of love and gives frank, ‘on the nose’ advice to women on how to find the right man without wasting time on the wrong ones in between. Emma believes she has met her own perfect match in Richard (Colin Firth) a successful and conservative publishing executive. Of course matters of the heart are never as clean cut as Emma believes them to be! Just weeks before her wedding Emma discovers she is somehow already married to Patrick (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) an irresponsible but charming neighborhood fireman with a big secret …the marriage is no accident. It turns out Patrick is harboring a grudge -- his fiancé broke up with him after receiving relationship advice from Emma on her show. The “accidental” marriage is a prank Patrick pulled to cause chaos in Emma’s apparently perfect love life and show her what it feels like to have a complete stranger meddle with your life. Unable to come clean, Patrick goes along with the ruse pretending to be just as baffled as Emma. Whilst trying to figure out how to end the marriage their opposite approaches to life create much tension and chaos. But as they spend more time together, Patrick starts to fall in love with the woman he thinks ruined his future marriage and Emma starts to admire his carefree, reckless passion for life and doubt her own conservative, button-down views on life and love.

CAREY TOLD SNOOPS WEDDING WAS JUST A VIDEO SHOOT
MARIAH CAREY managed to keep her wedding plans a secret from even her closest friends by convincing them all her trip to the Bahamas with then-boyfriend NICK CANNON was all part of her video plans.

MARIAH CAREY

Cannon plays the singer's love interest in her new promo for Bye Bye and Carey convinced everyone the couple were just shooting extra scenes when they jetted off to her Windermere home with select pals.

But the couple had already decided to wed there.

Carey tells People magazine, "We only told people who had to know... If we brought a million people with us, it would've been obvious we weren't shooting a video.

"Only about four people knew we were going down there to get married."

The couple flew boxes of Maine lobster and cases of Dom Perignon champagne over to the island, and Carey reportedly picked up the wedding cake herself and discreetly carried it with her.

Carey's best pal, rapper Da Brat, helped organise a last-minute bachelorette party before the singer became Mrs. Cannon.

Carey and Cannon exchanged vows on the patio of the singer's island retreat on 30 April (08).

CANNON OVERCOME WITH EMOTION ON WEDDING DAY
MARIAH CAREY's new husband NICK CANNON lost his famous confidence when he first saw his bride-to-be dressed in white - because he was too busy trying not to faint of cry.

NICK CANNON

The cocky actor and entrepreneur lost his cool as he waited to exchange vows with the pop superstar last week (30Apr08) - because Carey was a stunning vision in white.

The couple jetted off to the Bahamas to wed in secret on the patio on Carey's island retreat, and Cannon had no idea his wedding day would be so emotional for him.

He explains, "I haven't been shy in years, but I was speechless. I was elated, but I was thinking, 'Don't pass out.'

"What the pastor did was really cool. He said, 'The eyes are the window to the soul,' then gave us an entire minute to stare into each other's eyes. So I was saying, 'Don't cry.'"

WALTERS HATES HARRY POTTER
HARRY POTTER actress JULIE WALTERS hates J.K. ROWLING's books - and only skims through them to check her character is not killed off.

Julie Walters at the Awards Of The London Film Critics' Circle at Grosvenor House Hotel. London, England - 08.02.08

Walters, who plays Molly Weasley in the movie adaptations of the boy wizard tomes, buys the books because of a survival instinct rather than a love of the stories.

She says, "The funny thing was that a rumour went around once that I was an avid reader of the Harry Potter books and that I was always first in the queue when they came out.

"Not the case, I'm afraid. Someone caught me thumbing through one on a bookstand and all I was doing - I admit it - was checking whether or not J.K. Rowling, the author, had written my character out!

"It was pure self-interest. I got to the magic words 'Mrs Weasley', realised I wasn't going to be the impending corpse and put the book back on the shelf."

CHER had to embark on a monster tour after leaving ex-husband SONNY BONO - because a judge forced her to pay him $2 million (GBP1 million).

T.I. BECAME FRIENDS WITH EMINEM AFTER LEGAL TROUBLES
Rapper T.I. has formed a strong bond with EMINEM in recent months, after the hip-hop mogul reached out to the BRING 'EM OUT star to offer his support during his legal woes.

T.I. speaking at National Hip-Hop Summit 'Turn Up The Vote' at Temple University. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 20.04.08

T.I. was handed a 1,000-hour community service sentence in March (08), after pleading guilty to weapons charges relating to his October (07) arrest, when he allegedly tried to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers.

And, while spending several months on house arrest at his Atlanta, Georgia home, T.I. reveals a number of his hip-hop peers got in touch to help him through his troubled times.

But no one was more supportive than Slim Shady star Eminem.

Speaking on Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9, T.I. says, "I wasn't expecting to hear from nobody. I made a point not to reach out to people... because I didn't want to get none of my trash in nobody else's yard...

"(Young) Jeezy actually came to one of my hearings. ...I spoke to (Lil) Wayne a couple times, spoke to Puff (Sean 'Diddy' Combs), Jay(-Z) a few times. I probably spoke to Busta (Rhymes) the most.

"The only person I spoke to more than Busta was Eminem. Me and Eminem stayed in contact, stayed on the phone. Just checking in on each other, making sure one another was doing good. Of course I spoke to Nelly, a lot."

HENLEY 'MYSTIFIED' BY POLITICAL FREE PASS
THE EAGLES rocker DON HENLEY is amazed he has been allowed to openly insult and criticise U.S. President GEORGE W. BUSH, while other musicians have been vilified.

Don Henley of the The Eagles performing at the O2 Arena, as part of 'Long Road Out Of Eden' world tour. London, England - 20.03.08

Rock fans turned on The Eagles' country contemporaries The Dixie Chicks when they said they were ashamed to hail from Bush's home state of Texas - yet Henley has compared the president to a chimpanzee and suffered no consequences.

He tells TheBoot.com, "Where other people might not be able to get away with it - like our friends the Dixie Chicks, bless their hearts - we get away with it.

"I've said some outrageous things about Bush in the press. Every time I do an interview and they ask me who I would like for President this time I say, 'Any of the front-runners would be fine with me, because frankly a f**king chimpanzee would be an improvement.' I've said that numerous times in the press and nothing has come of it."

And he claims it's a "mystery" the typically right-wing country community has tolerated his band's pro-left song lyrics, adding, "The fact that we can go play the Country Music Awards and get a standing ovation when we've just put out an album with songs like Long Road Out of Eden and Frail Grasp on the Big Picture on it, which talks about politics and religion in a very what one might call leftist sort of way, is really sort of a mystery to me.

"But we get away with it. I don't know if people just ignore that part of it because they love the old stuff so much - maybe we've just made such a deep inroad into their hearts and minds that they forgive us when we do something that offends them."

TYRELL DREAMS OF RAT PACK TOUR WITH ROD + TONY
Celebrated crooner and producer STEVE TYRELL would love to recreate the RAT PACK with pals ROD STEWART and TONY BENNETT.

STEVE TYRELL

Tyrell, who produced Stewart's standards albums The Great American Songbook and has just released a collection of Burt Bacharach classics, thinks he and his two friends are the modern-day Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

And, though he knows the idea of a tour is a long-shot, Tyrell is convinced it would be one of the biggest tickets ever.

He says, "If I could do it and it didn't matter I would definitely go out with Rod; he's my buddy and he loves this music but Rod doesn't need to go out with me.

"He's one of my favourite people and he's a great singer, a great showman... I could be his valet."

Stewart actually joins Tyrell and Dionne Warwick, among others, on a new rendition of Bacharach and Hal David's What The World Needs Now, which features on his new album Back To Bacharach.

Tyrell would also love to add Bennett as the third man on his dream Rat Pack tour.

He adds, "The perfect tour would be me and Rod and Tony, but that would never happen. That would be fabulous. Tony is the man - he's the dean of all this music."

And he singles out Paris Hilton as one example: "And it still happens. That's why there is Paris Hilton. Now I'm in trouble with Paris Hilton."

DRIVER MADE TV DEBUT AS A CHILD ACTIVIST
British actress MINNIE DRIVER got her first taste of fame when she was just eight years old - after a BBC TV crew caught her on camera protesting against plans to chop down her school tree.

MINNIE DRIVER

The Good Will Hunting star, 38, was taking part in a song-and-dance protest outside her school in Hampshire, England to try and save a 300-year-old oak tree from destruction to make way for a new highway.

The campaign was a success - but their victory only lasted a few years.

She says, "There was this 300-year-old oak tree that was going to get chopped down and BBC Nationwide came down and filmed me up a tree, with my hippie English teacher Bob playing the guitar at the bottom. The camera panned up the tree and you saw these little legs, and this kilt that I was wearing, and there I was perched in the tree singing a song about this beautiful tree.

"Yeah, we staved off the bypass for 10 years - and then they rerouted the A3 (road) right through the grounds of the school."
