WILSON: 'THE SUPREMES INFLUENCED WINFREY'

Singer for 1960's girl group THE SUPREMES MARY WILSON claims the soul trio influenced major black stars such as WHOOPI GOLDBERG and OPRAH WINFREY.

The Baby Love hitmaker claims the band counted Luther King among their friends and regularly went on political demonstrations with the activist.

However, the 64-year-old still can't believe that the group inspired stars like Winfrey and Goldberg to go into their chosen profession.

She says, "The Supremes had a huge influence on social issues. We used to hang out with Martin Luther King, and go on marches.

"I've had Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey tell me that the Supremes influenced them to become who they have become, so that's a powerful thing. I'm still pinching myself."
