WOOD SAVES MUSICIAN FROM 'GUN-TOTING' SPECTOR
ROLLING STONES star RONNIE WOOD once saved a musician's life - after he was allegedly threatened with a gun by music producer PHIL SPECTOR.

Ronnie Wood leaving the private view of Rene Ricard's latest exhibition 'What Every Young Sissy Should Know', at the Scream Gallery in Mayfair. London, England - 03.04.08

Robin - the surviving son of late British comedy legends John Le Mesurier and Hattie Jacques - recalls an incident in the 1980s when Spector threatened him at Wood's studio.

He says, "About 20 years ago, I had a gun pulled on me by Phil Spector which really kind of scared me.

"I went to a party for the release of one of Ronnie Wood's albums in Los Angeles. We listened to it a couple of times and had a few drinks.

"I was leaving when a short, squirty guy jumped up and put a snub-nose revolver in my face. It was scary.

"Woody (Ron) went, 'No, No, No, he's a friend.' Spector then lowered the gun. I have no idea if it was loaded but it was pretty nasty."

Spector is preparing for a second trial where he is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra, California mansion in 2003.

His original murder trial was ruled a mistrial in September (07) when jurors couldn't agree unanimously on a guilty verdict.

The couple's marriage came under intense scrutiny last month (10Mar08) when the director failed to show up at New York's Rock + Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, where his wife was honoured.

This was the latest of several events the couple had failed to attend together, prompting scurrilous reports they'd split.

NEWSMAN CALLS FOR MILEY CYRUS MEDIA CONFERENCE OVER SHOCKING SNAPS
Outspoken U.S. newsman BILL O'REILLY has called for a media conference to discuss revealing new photos of teenage star MILEY CYRUS that were recently leaked online.

Miley Cyrus shopping in Malibu. Los Angeles, California - 05.04.08

The pictures, which show the 15-year-old Hannah Montana star posing in nothing but lingerie as she lounges on an unnamed boy's lap, have caused outrage in America, where Cyrus is a teen role model.

And Fox News anchor O'Reilly is keen to get to the bottom of the scandal - and find out why and how the photos were leaked online earlier this week (beg21Apr08).

He says, "We have so few role models, particularly for little girls in this country (and) she (Cyrus) is the main one. I hate to see this.

"Parents all over the country like this girl because she is clean-cut."

Calling the photos a "teasy, peek-a-boo thing," O'Reilly adds, "She's 14 in these pictures - that is the problem."

But Cyrus has her supporters too; on Tuesday (22Apr08), former touring partner Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, came to the pop star's defence, stating, "No one's perfect and everybody makes their mistakes. I think it's the way you handle it and come out of it the proper and respectful way."

T.I. CELEBRATES MANAGER'S BIRTHDAY IN STYLE
Rapper T.I. put his legal woes behind him to throw his manager JASON GETER a birthday party on Wednesday (23Apr08).

T.I. at the National Hip-Hop Summit 'Turn Up The Vote' at Temple University. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 20.04.08

Fergie and Young Jeezy were among the guests at the King magazine-sponsored bash in Atlanta, Georgia.

T.I., who was handed a 1,000-hour community service sentence last month (Mar08) after pleading guilty to weapons charges, was all smiles after spending the last five months under house arrest at his Atlanta area home.

The rapper served up a birthday cake in the shape of a safe, as his manager celebrated in style at the Luckie Lounge with showgirls.

And despite his legal woes, T.I. said, "I wouldn't miss this s**t for the world."

Meanwhile, the rap star is struggling to find schools and colleges where he can serve his community service - because education officials don't want him speaking at their institutes.

The hitmaker was ordered to speak to kids about the dangers of drugs and guns as part of his community service sentence, but he can't find a lecture site in the state, where he can talk to "atrisk youths".

Fulton County and Cobb County education officials are refusing to let him through their doors, leaving the star forced to hunt down willing establishments prepared to let him serve his sentence.

Sources close to the rap star claim T.I. is "banned from all Cobb County schools," but a school district spokesman insists that's not the case, adding, "With recent gang problems... it's not a good time."

MYSPACE TO EXCLUSIVELY PREMIER JAMIE LIDELL'S JIM
Jamie Lidell's new album JIM will be premiered worldwide exclusively on MySpace, Friday April 25, 2008, four days before the release in stores through Warp Records.

Jim is the follow up to 2005's Multiply. When Multiply came out few expected the restless sonic scientist to make an uplifting soul record, but he did; and audiences and critics were captivated by the fusion of his influences with deeply felt song writing, meticulous production skills, and most of all, that amazing voice. According to the reviews, Jamie was at various times, Little Richard, Jimi, Otis, Sly, Prince, Marvin, Stevie or some mashed-up combo of them all. Meanwhile, his live show has become an infamously exhilarating experience, with Jamie performing on the edges of control and chaos, turning music inside out and touring with kindred spirit, Beck. Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles and Paris, Jim takes even further what was started with Multiply, finding the balance between the spontaneous creativity of his raw ideas and the careful craft and polish of a great record. The musical world of Jim is even richer and even more refined.

ATO RECORDS TO RELEASE LIZ PHAIR'S 'EXILE IN GUYVILLE' 15TH ANNIV. REISSUE!
Liz Phair Celebrates 15th anniversary of 'EXILE IN GUYVILLE' with June 24th reissue on ATO Records. Special Edition Features Four Never-Before-Released B-Sides And Phair’s Exclusive New 'Guyville Redux' DVD.

Phair Gets Back Into The D.I.Y. Spirit With New Album On ATO Records This Fall.

image hosted by SuperPhotoSpace.com

It’s been 15 years since the release of the groundbreaking Exile in Guyville – and Liz Phair is marking the occasion by returning to her roots. Phair recently signed with the independent label ATO Records, which will release a special 15th anniversary edition of her landmark debut album on June 24th and her new studio album in the fall.

Exile in Guyville, which was out of print, will be available on CD, vinyl and – for the first time ever – in digital format. The special reissue package will include four never-before-released songs from the original recording sessions: “Ant in Alaska,” with Phair simply accompanying herself on guitar, “Wild Thing,” wherein she uses the melody and central line of The Troggs’ 1966 #1 hit as a jumping off point for an otherwise all-original song, “Say You,” which features Phair and a full band, and an untitled instrumental with Liz on guitar. Phair has also just completed a new, 60-minute DVD, “Guyville Redux,” for the reissue.

In “Guyville Redux” – which features an introduction by Dave Matthews, founder/co-owner of ATO Records – Liz and the “guys” of Guyville take us back to the making of the album, the male-dominated, Chicago independent music scene of the early 1990’s (which included Urge Overkill, Material Issue, and Smashing Pumpkins), and the Wicker Park neighborhood where it all happened. Phair interviews Gerard Cosloy and Chris Lombardi of Matador Records, which originally released the record, famed indie producer Steve Albini, Ira Glass of NPR’s “This American Life,” John Henderson of the elusive indie label Feel Good All Over, Brad Wood (producer of Exile In Guyville), John Cusack (who founded the Chicago avant-garde theater group New Crime Productions), Urge Overkill, and more.

Conceived as a song-by-song response to the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street, Exile in Guyville was released in 1993, and ranked #1 that year on both the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll and Spin magazine’s year-end critics poll. Incredibly influential to this day, its place as a seminal rock album has been reaffirmed by its inclusion in countless historical “best of” lists over the past 15 years, including: “Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” Spin’s “100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005,” Rolling Stone’s “Women in Rock (the 50 essential albums),” Blender’s “Best Indie Rock Albums of All Time,” Pitchfork’s “Top 100 Albums of the 1990’s,” and VH1’s “Greatest Albums Of All Time,” to name but a few. Exile in Guyville is, in the words of Pitchfork, “a certifiable indie roadtrip classic.”

“Exile in Guyville is miles more complex than the porn-star manifesto it was often considered,” says Alan Light (former Editor-in-Chief of Spin, Vibe and Tracks) in an essay penned especially for the reissue. “Phair spoke for the uncertainties facing a new generation of women, struggling to find a balance between sexual confidence and romance, between independence and isolation….Exile in Guyville sat at the center of a culture in transition.”

SNIPES JAILED FOR THREE YEARS
Hollywood star WESLEY SNIPES will serve three years in jail for tax evasion.

PENN STRIKES IT LUCKY BY SPLITTING HIS NAME
Asian-American movie star KAL PENN refuses to act under his birth name KALPEN MODI - because he fears film roles would be limited to his ethnicity.

KAL PENN

The Namesake star is convinced he wouldn't have had the opportunities he has enjoyed if he'd stubbornly stuck with his Indian name.

He says, "There were a couple of friends who said, 'If you use Kalpen Modi on your resume, you'll probably be more limited to roles.

"Whether it's less letters or a neutral sounding name, am I trying to sound less ethnic? Yeah. But I didn't want to come up with a completely separate name that has nothing to do with my own.

"So I just took my first name and split it in half."

And by doing so, Penn struck it lucky: "My parents' friends said that in ancient Hindu numerology the sequence of three letters and seven letters all together, with that combination, is considered very lucky."
