FREE SECRET SHOW WITH PHANTOM PLANET AND THE HUSH SOUND!

Phantom Planet with special guest The Hush Sound to perform free MySpace secret show on April 9, 2008 in San Francisco.

image hosted by SuperPhotoSpace.com

After three years from their last album, the Los Angeles power pop band Phantom Planet are set to release their new album, Raise The Dead, on April 15 and will celebrate by performing an intimate MySpace Secret Show at the Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco, California. The album has already been hailed as “Phantom Planet’s best” by Alternative Press who, in a rare four star review, also hailed the album as a “brilliant” effort that “stews in its drama like vintage Radiohead.”

Also on the bill are the band’s new labelmates, Fueled by Ramen/Decaydance artists The Hush Sound, who recently released their second album, Goodbye Blues. Both bands are performing as part of the largely sold out Honda Civic Tour, and this will be the only performance in a small venue such as Bottom Of The Hill.

Phantom Planet’s career kicked off in the late 1990’s, and scored a huge hit with “California,” which the television show The OC used as its theme. They signed with hot indie Fueled By Ramen last year. Raise The Dead is the band’s first album with label.

DOHERTY JAILED

British rocker PETE DOHERTY has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail for his drug use and failure to attend probation hearings in a timely manner.

PETE DOHERTY

The Babyshambles frontman was handed the prison term on Tuesday (08Apr08), after appearing at West London Magistrates Court.

Judge Davinder Lachar, who presided over the case, has previously given Doherty a suspended jail sentence for various other drug offences.

A court spokesperson says Doherty had been sentenced for "breach of time keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs".

Doherty is now looking to appeal the ruling in a bid to press ahead with his tour schedule, which includes a date at London's Royal Albert Hall on 26 April (08) and the Glastonbury festival in June (08).

However, in a statement from his record label Parlophone, label bosses claim the Royal Albert Hall gig will be postponed until after Doherty has completed his prison stint.

The statement reads: "(The Royal Albert Hall concert) is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced. Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and all those concerned."

MINOGUE: 'I WAS MISDIAGNOSED'

Doctors treating Australian pop star KYLIE MINOGUE initially misdiagnosed the singer after failing to spot she was suffering from breast cancer.

Kylie Minogue performing at The Brit Awards 2008 held at Earls Court. London, England - 20.02.08

The 39-year-old began feeling unwell while she was in the middle of the Australian leg of her 2005 Show Girl tour.

Minogue saw a doctor and went straight back to work after being told she was perfectly healthy.

But several weeks later the singer later found a suspicious lump in her breast and, after consulting a different doctor's opinion, she was diagnosed with cancer.

Following a year of treatment, Minogue has now made a good recovery, but the experience has made her aware that medical tests are not always accurate.

And the star urges other women to get a second opinion from their doctor if they suspect they might have the condition.

She says, "Because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn't necessarily mean they're right. I don't want to say that to frighten people but that's just a fact

"I had just had a mammogram and they didn't find anything and a couple of weeks later I found a lump. You must follow your intuition and if you have any doubt go back again."

VANDALS BEHEAD STARR STATUE

Angry vandals have beheaded a statue of RINGO STARR in his hometown after THE BEATLES legend made disparaging remarks about the city of Liverpool, England, in a TV interview.

Ringo Starr arriving at his Manhattan hotel. New York City, USA - 22.01.08

The drummer appeared on a British chat show earlier this year (Jan08) and told host Jonathan Ross there was "nothing" he missed about the area since leaving to pursue his music career.

And his comments have angered people in the city who are fiercely proud of the area's link to the Beatles.

Vandals have already defaced a tribute to Starr at his former school and a statue of the star has become the next victim.

Life-sized stone models of all The Beatles members were erected at Liverpool's South Partway station last month (Mar08) to celebrate the city's status as European Capital of Culture.

But while bandmates John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison were left alone, the drummer's inanimate likeness was beheaded in what is believed to be another revenge attack.

RICHARDS: 'SIR MICK'S NO MUSICIAN'

THE ROLLING STONES guitarist KEITH RICHARDS has slammed his bandmate SIR MICK JAGGER's talent as a musician, branding him 'not very musical'.

MICK JAGGER and KEITH RICHARDS of the Rolling Stones

The duo, songwriting partners for the past four-and-a-half decades, has co-written many of the band's biggest hits, including (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction and Jumpin' Jack Flash.

But Richards, 64, insists music and melody don't come naturally to Jagger.

He says, "I'll play whatever Mick says he feels like singing that night. I might say, 'You realise, Mick, that you've got five songs in the same key.' But this is a musical thing and Mick is not very musical."

But the rocker concedes there is one area his bandmate excels in: "Mick is very good at being Mick."

LOWE SUES OVER BLACKMAIL CLAIM

LATEST: Actor ROB LOWE has launched a $1 million (GBP500,000) lawsuit against a former nanny he accused of attempting to blackmail him.

Rob Lowe leaving Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills after having lunch. Los Angeles, California - 04.03.08

The West Wing star claims Laura Boyce has demanded he and his wife Sheryl pay her $1.5 million (GBP750,000) by the end of this week (11Apr08), or she will go to the press with allegations of harassment.

Lowe subsequently went public with the alleged extortion attempt, calling it "an attempt to damage and humiliate not only my wife and me, but our two young sons as well".

The 44-year-old is now suing Boyce for violating a confidentiality agreement, defamation and infliction of emotional distress.

Boyce was hired by the family at the beginning of 2007 and charged with looking after Edward, eight, and John, six, before she quit in November (07).

The court papers filed by Lowe at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (07Apr08) accuse their former employee of having "betrayed their trust and engaged in a scheme to hurt the Lowes by spreading malicious lies".

THE SPECIALS REUNION IS UNCERTAIN

THE SPECIALS star NEVILLE STAPLE regrets reuniting the legendary Ska band has been a tough process - and there is still a chance the group will split before a tour.

The Ghost Town stars, who broke up at the height of their success in 1981, have reformed with the hope of embarking on a tour later this year (08).

But Staple admits the band are just "seeing how (rehearsals) go" and if they aren't able to meet the high musical standards they set themselves in the 1980s, they will give up on the idea of a reunion.

He says, "A couple of months ago we started talking. We had to talk first to see if we could get on, but we got past the talking stage. Then we said, 'Okay, let's see what we're like in a room together rehearsing with instruments.'

"We're just seeing how it goes. If it gels, it gels. If it doesn't, you don't wanna go out there as some old geriatrics - not me. What we've got to do is make sure the music at least is right.

"So if it works, we'll do it. If not, well. I'm sorry lads and girls. But we're trying."

TOWNSHEND PAYS MUSICAL TRIBUTE AT ASPINALL'S FUNERAL

THE WHO'S PETE TOWNSHEND paid a moving musical tribute to NEIL ASPINALL at his funeral on Monday (07Apr08) - by performing two of Aspinall's favourite songs at the ceremony.

Pete Townshend of The Who performing at 2007 Glastonbury Festival day 3. Somerset,England - 24.06.07

Townshend played Bob Dylan's Mr Tambourine Man and late Beatle George Harrison's My Sweet Lord at the service in St Mary-the-Virgin church in Twickenham, England.

Aspinall was widely acknowledged as the 'Fifth Beatle' because of his close ties to bandmembers Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. He served as the former road manager and business advisor for the Fab Four for over 40 years, and even sang backing vocals for the group's hit Yellow Submarine.

Mourners at the funeral included McCartney's children Stella and James, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and their son Julian Lennon, Ringo Starr's wife Barbara Bach, Beatles producer Sir George Martin, and the band's original drummer Pete Best.

Aspinall died last month (Mar08) of lung cancer aged 66.

SNOOP DOGG CONFIDENT HE WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE U.K.

Rapper SNOOP DOGG is confident a ruling allowing him to enter the U.K. will be upheld - despite appeals from British officials to have him barred from the country.

Snoop Dogg and MySpace celebrates the release of 'Ego Trippin' at Opera/Crimson. Hollywood, California - 19.03.08

The star - real name Calvin Broadus Jr - was prohibited from entering the country after he was involved in a brawl at Heathrow Airport in April 2006.

That ruling was overturned earlier this year (08) when Snoop wrote to the U.K. government to ask for his visa ban to be lifted.

But, on Friday (04Apr08), Britain's Border Agency bosses confirmed they will challenge the decision at a hearing this week (begs07Apr08).

However Broadus remains optimistic he will be allowed in to attend the launch of a cinema advert - in which he plays himself - for cellphone network Orange.

He says, "I'm a be (sic) there (the U.K.) before you know it. Be on the look out for the Big Boss Dogg!"

The guitarist quickly moved up through the ranks in the youth organisation, and insists the experience honed his ability to guide others.

Actor PATRICK STEWART hated his costume in sci-fi TV series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION because it was so tight, it damaged his back.

Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 'Star Trek: Nemesis'

The star, who played Captain Jean Luc Picard in the show, reveals the iconic lycra suit was so painful to wear, his chiropractor encouraged him to take legal action against the studio for forcing him to sport the outfit, which was one size too small for him.

He says, "I came to loathe the costume. We actually got rid of it after the second season thanks to my chiropractor, who said, 'If they don't take you out of that costume we are going to slap a lawsuit on Paramount for the lasting damage done to your spine.

"The producers wanted to have a smooth, unwrinkled look. It put a terrible amount of strain on the shoulders, neck and back."
