Synopsis: TOWELHEAD follows the dark, bold and shockingly funny life of Jasira, a 13-year-old Arab-American girl, as she navigates the confusing and frightening path of adolescence and her own sexual awakening.
When Jasira’s mother sends her to Houston to live with her strict Lebanese father, she quickly learns that her new neighbors find her and her father a curiosity. Worse, her budding womanhood makes her traditional and hot-tempered father uncomfortable. Lonely in this new environment, Jasira seeks friendship and acceptance from her neighbors Mr. Vuoso, an Army reservist, and Melina, a meddling but caring expectant mother.
Thrown into an unfamiliar suburban world, Jasira must confront racism and hypocrisy at home and at school – and at the same time struggle to make sense of her raging hormones and newfound sexuality. Her boyfriend, Thomas, though a few years older, provides some comfort – but even that relationship causes problems when her father discovers that Thomas is black. Surrounded by adults who are just as lost as she is, Jasira yearns for understanding, even amidst often brutal acts.

She says, "I won't say that we're just friends - me and Chris are really best, best friends. We both started our careers around the same time. He is one of the only people in the industry ... I trust and hang out with all the time.
"We are best friends, honestly, like brother and sister. If he was a boyfriend, I would say that."

WINEHOUSE IN JAILHOUSE FAMILY FEUD?
Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE's husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL could be moved from his London prison - after his mother submitted a formal request to have him relocated closer to his family.

Fielder-Civil is currently behind bars in London's Pentonville Prison, where he is awaiting to stand trial on charges of perverting the course of justice relating to a previous charge of grievous bodily harm.
But Georgette Fielder-Civil now wants her son to be moved to a prison in Nottinghamshire, closer to his family and away from Winehouse.
She says, "We've asked for Blake to be moved from London so we can visit him more easily. We want him nearer the family home, even if it means Amy won't get to see him."
And Fielder-Civil insists if her son was moved out of London, Winehouse "wouldn't be capable" of travelling to visit him.
She adds, "She's always late for the visits anyway and is often banned from seeing him. I can't imagine she would be capable of getting herself on a train to visit him if he was moved out of London. But at least he would be nearer his mum, dad and two brothers."

Veteran rocker SIR MICK JAGGER has revealed the secret behind his lean physique and boundless energy - he was born during World War II.

Jagger claims the rationed diet he was raised on in Kent, England after he was born in 1943, meant he has always been skinny and fit.
He explains, "I do a bit of training for a few months before we go on tour, but nothing special.
"I think my fitness levels are down to being a war child. That diet was meant to be the best 'Hardly any fat, hardly any sweets.' That all stands you in good stead."

Bassist Drew McConnell says, "I remember getting a phonecall the next day saying we'd never play the event again.
"Peter head-butted (Razorlight's) Jonny Borrell and, minutes before we were meant to go on, our guitarist tore off in a golf buggy cackling manically.
"I don't know why they're letting us back, I guess tempers fade."

British rock band KASABIAN has joined a growing global campaign against seal clubbing.

The Club Foot hitmakers are backing animal welfare charity Peta2 in demanding an end to Canada's annual cull of 275, 000 baby harp seals.

Actress/singer JESSICA SIMPSON has been discharged from hospital after being rushed in with a minor kidney infection.

The 27-year-old checked into Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Friday (28Mar08) complaining of "feeling achy" and suffering from a "fever".

She insists Simpson is feeling "much better now."

LATEST: VELVET REVOLVER guitarist SLASH has again quashed reports the band is on the verge of splitting up - although he's hinted frontman SCOTT WEILAND may not be a member for much longer.

Singer Weiland shocked Velvet Revolver fans last month (Mar08) with an onstage announcement the rockers' current tour will be their last.
When drummer Matt Sorum responded with an online post explaining the band is in "turmoil", Weiland launched an astonishing attack on the percussionist, during which he alleged Velvet Revolver cancelled its 2007 Australian tour because the percussionist was admitted to rehab.
Now guitarist Slash has hinted Weiland may leave the five-piece permanently when he joins his former band Stone Temple Pilots for a reunion tour this summer (08).
Slash says, "There will be a third album. We don't know how or when but the core four guys will continue."
Bassist Duff McKagan and guitarist Dave Kushner round out Velvet Revolver's line-up.

The former heroin addict told reporters at a London airport in 1973 that he was travelling to Switzerland to have his blood transfused as part of treatment to help him kick drugs.
The journalists believed the Brown Sugar rocker and his made-up story has flourished ever since.
Richards says, "I started that myth, I was in Heathrow in 1973 on my way to a Swiss clinic - these were the days before the word rehab had ever been used. I was going to sort myself out.
"These guys in raincoats (journalists) wanted to know what I was doing. I just threw the words out, 'I'm gonna get my blood changed.' It stuck. It became real. I never had my blood changed, I just got clean."

All five members of boy band NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK will appear together on U.S. TV show Today on Friday (04Apr08), when they are expected to officially announce they've reformed.

Speculation the group - Danny Woods, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight - has reunited reached fever pitch in January (08) when a new untitled track was uploaded on New Kids On The Block's recently-active official website.
And although Woods denied the band is to reform, reports the five-piece were in the studio working on a new album then surfaced.
Now New Kids On The Block, who sold over 50 million albums before splitting in 1994, are to appear on TV network NBC's Today show, where they are expected to announce a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their smash sophomore disc Hangin' Tough.

MADONNA swapped New York for London, because the Big Apple has lost its status as the world's cultural capital.

The Michigan native moved to New York as a 19-year-old in 1977 and lived in the city for much of her career, only relocating to London in 1997 after falling in love with British film director Guy Ritchie, who she wed three years later (00).
Now Madonna has revealed she turned her back on Manhattan because the city is no longer the vibrant centre of the arts it once was.
She tells Vanity Fair magazine, "New York City is not the same place it used to be. It still has great energy. I still put my finger in the socket.
"But it doesn't feel alive, crackling with that synergy between the art world and music world and fashion world that was happening in the '80s."

The brief six-song gig, which was broadcast live on Los Angeles country radio station KKGO Go Country 105, was to promote Parton's new album Backwoods Barbie.
The 62-year-old told the crowd and the listeners at home, "It's good to be back where I belong! I wrote several records here and people have always been very nice."
Parton, famous for her busty image, was forced to postpone her U.S. tour in February (08) after doctors ordered her to rest for six to eight weeks to recover from a back injury, caused by her giant breasts.

ALLEN SUES AMERICAN APPAREL
Veteran filmmaker WOODY ALLEN has filed legal papers accusing clothing company American Apparel of using his image in its advertising without his permission.

The comedian claims he was never contacted by an American Apparel representative about the billboard and online advertisements, which featured an image - taken from the Oscar-winning 1977 movie Annie Hall - of Allen dressed as a Hasidic Jew.
In legal documents filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Monday (31Mar08), Allen says he doesn't endorse commercial products in the U.S. and that American Apparel hasn't compensated him for the use of his likeness.
Allen is seeking damages of more than $10 million (GBP5 million).

The WAYANS brothers have abandoned their plans to construct a movie studio at a former army base in Oakland, California.

The filmmaking siblings - Damon, Marlon, Keenen Ivory and Shawn - had also wanted to build a shopping centre on the 13-acre site, which is situated near the city's port.
According to their business partner Britten Shuford, the Wayans pulled out after failing to get a commitment from Oakland officials to preserve the location's picturesque views of the San Francisco Bay.
The brothers were worried the port's plans to stack storage containers would block out views of the bay.

DIRECTOR DASSIN DIES
Filmmaker JULES DASSIN has died following a short illness. He was 96.
The American director passed away in an Athens, Greece hospital on Monday (31Mar08).
Dassin, who is best known for his Oscar-winning 1960 movie Never On Sunday, was married to the late Greek actress and culture minister Melina Mercouri.
Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis says, "Greece grieves the loss of a rare human being, an important creator and a true friend. His passion, energy, fighting spirit and nobility will never be forgotten."
Dassin started his career as an actor and theatre producer; his breakthrough came when he became an assistant to legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in 1940.
He moved to France in the early 1950s after he was named as part of Hollywood's "communist faction" during a House Of Representatives Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) hearing.
Dassin went on to marry Mercouri, who starred in his Never On Sunday, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song and for which Dassin received two Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Writing, Story And Screenplay.

Legendary ska band THE SPECIALS are to reunite for a reunion tour later this year (08).
The Ghost Town stars, who split at the height of their success in 1981, are planning to hit the road in the autumn (08) - after plenty of rehearsals.
Frontman Terry Hall says, "We're still trying to put dates together, but hopefully (we'll tour) September/October time.
"We need to spend the summer rehearsing... I think it's taken me 30 years to realise we could do it really well."
Last year (07), Hall and The Specials singer/guitarist Lynval Golding stunned fans when they shared a stage together for the first time in 22 years to play with Lily Allen at the Glastonbury Festival in England.
