CAREY: 'MARRIAGE PREVENTED ME FROM FEELING LIKE A STAR'

MARIAH CAREY has never felt like a superstar because her marriage to music mogul TOMMY MOTTOLA prevented her from feeling 'empowered' as an artist.

The Heatbreaker star has often spoken out about her five-year marriage to the former chairman of Sony Music, claiming married life with Mottola was restrictive - comparing the 58-year-old to "a strict father".

And the singer, who divorced Mottola in 1998, has penned a track about the turbulent relationship for her new album E=MC².

She tells U.S. magazine Parade, "I see other people who have one hit and they're already thinking they're the biggest star in the world. But I didn't feel that because of the relationship that I was in and because I think there was a concerted effort to keep me from feeling too empowered.

"On my new album, the song Side Effects says, 'Kept my tears inside, 'cause I knew if I started I'd keep crying for the rest of my life.' It's really true. At that point in my life (during my marriage) I didn't cry because I had to be so emotionally cut off to deal with it."

But the 38-year-old beauty blames herself for the years of torment, stating her dysfunctional upbringing made her feel as if she didn't deserve happiness - prompting her to try and make her marriage work.

She explains, "I grew up with such dysfunction that I was just used to it. I assumed that I didn't have a right to be a happy in a personal life.

"But I look back at it now and I feel that part of that was my fault, for allowing the relationship to linger - or, dare I say, fester - for so long."

ALLEN'S CHATSHOW UNDER FIRE FOR 'KEGGING' CLIP

Pop star LILY ALLEN's BBC chatshow has come under fire after the star previewed a controversial video clip to viewers - featuring a teacher having his trousers pulled down in front of a class of students.

The Smile star showed the footage on her show Lily Allen And Friends on Tuesday (18Mar08) night as part of the programme's 'funny Internet clips' section.

Introducing the video, the singer told the audience, "Now it's my favourite, it's 'kegging' a teacher - pulling someone's trousers down in public when they least expect it. It's very childish, but very funny."

But Allen has come under scrutiny for choosing to show the clip - with Britain's Teacher's Union branding the stunt "completely and utterly irresponsible".

A representative for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers says, "If she doesn't understand the responsibility of what she is doing in the media world, then she should not be allowed to do that."

QUEEN WILL ROCK YOU AGAIN

Rock supergroup QUEEN are set to return to South America for the first time since the death of frontman FREDDIE MERCURY.

The band performed historic shows on the continent during its heyday in the 1980s, and now group founders Brian May and Roger Taylor are heading back there with new singer Paul Rodgers as part of an extensive four-month world tour.

The new-look Queen has recorded a new album, Cosmos, after fans applauded former Free star Rodgers' addition to the band, and now they're looking to return to some of the landmark arenas and stadiums where they once played for record-breaking crowds.

The new dates come after Queen performed to more than a million fans with Rodgers on a 2007 tour of Europe, Japan and America.

The arena tour will hit 14 countries in just seven weeks - and wrap up at the end of 2008 in South America.

Queen's past Latin America shows set new world records for the numbers of the audiences it attracted. At the 1985 Rock In Rio concert the band played to an unheard of audience of 300,000. The gig was watched by nearly 200 million people throughout South America on TV.

The new dates will begin with shows in Moscow, Russia in mid-September (08).

He says, "She (Rihanna) actually approcached me in an elevator in New York about a month or two ago and she was like, 'I'm such a fan of your music,' and I said exactly the same thing, so we were like, 'Well let's do something.'"

"I'm gonna try and deliver a couple of hits. She's the new Britney Spears."

PEOPLE MAGAZINE LANDS LOPEZ BABY SCOOP

JENNIFER LOPEZ will debut her twins on the front cover of U.S. magazine People on Thursday morning (20Mar08).

The publication has landed the exclusive family shot that the world has been waiting to see.

Lopez gave birth to son Max and daughter Emme on 22 February (08).

As well as taking over the front of the weekly publication, Lopez, husband Marc Anthony and their newborns also fill a 12-page spread in the magazine.

People managing editor Larry Hackett says, "We are thrilled that the world will see these images for the first time in People magazine."

The special issue will also feature an exclusive at-home interview with Lopez and Anthony at their Long Island, New York, property.

Von Drachenberg, who fronts U.S. TV show L.A. Ink, and Orbison have since called off their engagement and the tattooist is now dating Sixx.

Sixx tells Blabbermouth.net, "Yes, Kat and myself are together. Yes, we've been 'just' friends since last summer. She was going through a brutal divorce (as was I) and we were friends.

"Along the way, she met a great guy and we were friends through that too. They broke up and we were still 'just' friends… I've never had a friend become the girl."

WORKER KILLS HIMSELF AT GIBSON'S HOME

A construction worker has committed suicide at MEL GIBSON's house in Agoura Hills, California, according to a report.

The Lethal Weapon star and his family were not home when the body, belonging to a 47-year-old who reportedly hung himself, was discovered on Wednesday (19Mar08). The property is currently under heavy construction.

An emergency call was made to a police station in nearby Lost Hills - the same station where Gibson was taken following his infamous drink-driving arrest in 2006 - on Wednesday morning, reports website TMZ.com.

EMBRY SETTLES YEAR-LONG CRASH BATTLE

Actor ETHAN EMBRY has agreed to pay a hefty settlement to a model he left scarred after a motorcycle accident in 2005.

Glamour girl Angelina Roudeva sued the Sweet Home Alabama star last year (07) after he allegedly left her by the side of the road after she was thrown from his motorbike.

Roudeva, who now appears on hit U.S. gameshow Deal Or No Deal, claimed Embry refused to call for medical help immediately after the accident and instead attempted to 'treat' her in his bathtub with cold water and alcohol.

The actor agreed to settle on Wednesday (19Mar08), the same day the case was set to go to trial, according to TMZ.com.

MINGHELLA'S LAST FILM PREMIERES IN LONDON

The premiere of ANTHONY MINGHELLA's final film went ahead on Tuesday night (18Mar08), just hours after it was announced the director had died.

TV movie The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency was screened at the "very moving" and "bitter-sweet" London event after Minghella's family insisted the premiere go-ahead.

The British filmmaker, who the won Best Director Oscar for his 1996 movie The English Patient, died from complications following surgery for cancer of the tonsils and neck, which he underwent last week (end14Mar08) at London's Charing Cross Hospital. He was 54-years-old.

LIU: 'PAY FOR TAP WATER TO HELP AFRICAN KIDS'

KILL BILL star LUCY LIU is calling on Americans to pay $1 (50 pence) for tap water in restaurants to help save children's lives in Africa.

Liu, a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) ambassador, has just returned from Cote d'Ivoire in Africa, where she witnessed the threat to child survival caused by a lack of clean drinking water.

And now the actress is encouraging people to pay for the tap water they'd normally get for free during World Water Week this week (begs17Mar08) - to help raise $1 million (GBP500,000) to provide African children with purified water.

Liu says, "If you go to a restaurant and they'd give you tap water for free, they're asking you to donate a dollar for the tap water.

"One dollar will provide water for 40 children for one day, which is incredible. It's kind of great - you get to go out and enjoy food with people and you get to give back in such a small and simple way."

More than 2,000 restaurants across the U.S. have signed up to participate in World Water Week.
