MEXICAN SINGER ALFARO SLAIN IN DRUG WAR

Mexican singer JESUS REY DAVID ALFARO has been murdered in the town of Tijuana, near the U.S. border.

The body of the star, nicknamed The Little Rooster, was found last week (ends15Feb08), along with the remains of his manager and assistant and three other people.

They are believed to have been tortured and murdered by the country's warring drug gangs, who authorities fear are killing off performers they associate with their rivals.

The victims' corpses were also covered in threatening messages against Mexico's army.

A spokesman from the state attorney general's office says, "We believe Alfaro had links to the Arellano Felix cartel."

The slaying is the latest in a long line of murders, including that of trumpeter Jose Luis Aquino and Grammy nominated Sergio Gomez, who was tortured and strangled in December (07).
