JUMPER VAULTS TO U.S. BOX OFFICE NUMBER ONE

Science-fiction film JUMPER has leaped to the top of the U.S. box office chart, beating out competition from dance movie STEP UP 2 THE STREETS.

Jumper, which stars Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson, debuted at number one with takings of $27.2 million (GBP13.6 million) over the weekend (15-17Feb08).

Step Up 2 The Streets is another new entry at two with $19.7 million (GBP9.85 million), while The Spiderwick Chronicles opens at three with $19.1 million (GBP9.55 million).

Fool's Gold drops three places to four with $13.1 million (GBP6.55 million), while romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe took advantage of the Valentine's Day weekend to debut at five with $9.7 million (GBP4.85 million).
