THE ELITE SQUAD WINS GOLDEN BEAR

JOSE PADILHA's crime drama THE ELITE SQUAD has won the 2008 Golden Bear - the top honour at the Berlin Film Festival.

The film - about corrupt police officers supposed to be fighting drug crime in Brazil - beat out 21 other movies, including the

Oscar-nominated There Will Be Blood and Mike Leigh's comedy Happy-Go-Lucky, to take home the prize.

The Silver Bear gong was awarded to filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for his oil epic There Will Be Blood, while British star Sally Hawkins

won Best Actress for Happy-Go-Lucky and Iranian actor Reza Naji scored Best Actor for The Song Of Sparrows.
