British rockers THE FUTUREHEADS believe bands should avoid signing with major record firms - because labels don't make musicians their priority.
The Futureheads performing at The Carling Weekend Festival 2006 held in Bramhall Park - Day Three. Leeds, England - 27.08.06
The fourpiece were dropped by their label Warner Music Group in 2006 - but have since established Nul Records, their own independent label.
Frontman Barry Hyde says, "Every time a band signs with a major label they're putting themselves into a really bad position.
"But they don't realise it because of the smokescreen, the false smile and the bottle of champagne."
And the songwriter insists that once artists embrace independent labels, there will no longer be a need for major money-making record companies.
Hyde adds, "The infrastructure for indie labels to be successful is still being built up, but once it is, major labels are finished.
"People are fed up with the way major labels work. We're embracing the revolution that is happening in the business. We're hoping bands will realise they can do it, take our lead."
