Producer MARK RONSON was so thrilled to meet his musical hero SLASH, he kept a piece of the guitar legend's rubbish and asked him to autograph it.

MARK RONSON

The Valerie hitmaker took home three prizes at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (10Feb08) - but insists he was even more overwhelmed after meeting the former Guns N' Roses rocker backstage.

The 32-year-old writes on his MySpace blog, "I found an empty pack of his cigarettes and got him to sign it. He thought it was sweet.

"But his wife was a bit wary and told me that I might be a psycho. I think she may be right."

50 CENT WINS ROW OVER CHILD SUPPORT

50 CENT has been handed victory after a judge ruled in his favour in a dispute with his ex-girlfriend over child support for their son MARQUIS.

50 CENT

The superstar rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, took Shaniqua Tomkins to court after refusing to agree to her requests for more money for the upkeep of the 10-year-old.

Tomkins previously asked for $50,000 (GBP25,000)-a-month but was granted just half of that sum - $25,000 (GBP12,500)-a-month - when the court viewed her and her son's expenses.

But that figure was reduced further earlier this week (begs11Feb08), and Tomkins will now only receive $6,700 (GBP3,350)-a-month from the multi-millionaire In Da Club hitmaker, reports the New York Post's gossip column PageSix.

Jackson's lawyer Brett Kimmel says, "My client and I are very happy with the ruling."

RAPPER PRODIGY HOSPITALISED, AVOIDS JAIL TERM AGAIN

LATEST: MOBB DEEP rapper PRODIGY has avoided jail for the second time in six weeks - he's been hospitalised in New York after suffering complications from sickle cell anaemia.

Mobb Deep at the Official New York Giants Super Bowl victory party at Tenjune. New York City, USA - 05.02.08

The hip-hop star, real name Albert Johnson, was taken to Montefiore Hospital in The Bronx area of the state on Wednesday (13Feb08) - the same day he was due to turn himself in to authorities to begin his three-and-a-half year prison term for gun possession offences.

He was previously admitted to the emergency room on 8 January (08) and was given a month's reprieve to check himself into a penitentiary.

Johnson is currently being treated for severe lung pain and could even require a hip replacement, according to his lawyer Irving Cohen.

Cohen appeared before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin on Wednesday to relay the information of his client's hospitalisation and explain the delay in reporting to jail.

He said of the sentencing, "Everybody wants to get this done. But this is a crisis situation."

But McLaughlin failed to sympathise with Johnson's illness and told the attorney to return later that afternoon to provide a progress report, before adding: "It could be he will have to have the operation in the state prison system."

If a hip operation is needed, it will be the 33-year-old's second replacement surgery - he underwent a similar procedure last year (07) when he was forced to seek medical help during one of three visits related to the blood disorder, reports New York Post's gossip column PageSix.

Former model JERRY HALL still loves with her ex-husband SIR MICK JAGGER.

Jerry Hall at Lighthouse Gala Auction held at Christie's. London, England - 12.03.07

The couple, who have four children together, divorced in 1999 after she learned about Jagger's longterm affair and subsequent lovechild while married to the Texan beauty.

But the 51-year-old admits her feelings for the veteran rocker continue - albeit in a platonic way - despite his adultery.

She says, "When you have four children together, you're always going to have a connection. I still love him. But it's a different kind of love now. It's a platonic love.

"I honestly think you are only meant to be with someone for a certain period of your life. You love that person but then you move on.

"That's what happened with Mick. And I truly believe that is was never meant to be forever. And I still strongly believe in love."

FUTUREHEADS ADVISE BANDS TO AVOID RECORD DEALS

British rockers THE FUTUREHEADS believe bands should avoid signing with major record firms - because labels don't make musicians their priority.

The Futureheads performing at The Carling Weekend Festival 2006 held in Bramhall Park - Day Three. Leeds, England - 27.08.06

The fourpiece were dropped by their label Warner Music Group in 2006 - but have since established Nul Records, their own independent label.

Frontman Barry Hyde says, "Every time a band signs with a major label they're putting themselves into a really bad position.

"But they don't realise it because of the smokescreen, the false smile and the bottle of champagne."

And the songwriter insists that once artists embrace independent labels, there will no longer be a need for major money-making record companies.

Hyde adds, "The infrastructure for indie labels to be successful is still being built up, but once it is, major labels are finished.

"People are fed up with the way major labels work. We're embracing the revolution that is happening in the business. We're hoping bands will realise they can do it, take our lead."

STARS URGE SAG LEADERS TO BEGIN TALKS TO AVOID STRIKE

TOM HANKS, GEORGE CLOONEY, MERYL STREEP and ROBERT DE NIRO have taken out newspaper advertisements appealing to leaders of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to start talks with movie studios in a bid to avert a possible strike.

SAG members will reportedly hold a mass walk-out this summer (08) after their current contract expires on 30 June if negotiations with studio bosses over pay and conditions do not prove fruitful.

The Hollywood stars want SAG directors to enter talks with studios before it's too late to avoid strike action, and took out adverts in trade papers Variety and The Hollywood Reporter to appeal to the leaders of the 120,000-strong union.

Their call comes just days after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) members voted to end a three-month strike over Internet royalties - which has crippled the American TV and movie industry - earlier this week (begs11Feb08).

But SAG national executive director Doug Allen insisted the union would open negotiations "at a time that will most benefit our members".

Madonna leaving Hyatt Hotel after her photocall and press conference for "Filth And Wisdom" - Berlin Film Festival 2008 (Berlinale). Berlin, Germany - 13.02.08

WINEHOUSE'S DAD CREDITS DRUG FOOTAGE FOR AMY'S RECOVERY

AMY WINEHOUSE's father has thanked a British newspaper for publishing a film of his daughter allegedly taking drugs - insisting the move shocked her into seeking treatment.

Amy Winehouse on her way back to her South London hotel after a party at Buckler. London, England - 12.02.08

Winehouse checked into a rehab clinic in London last month (Jan08) after a video showing the star allegedly taking a variety of illegal substances was passed on to British newspaper The Sun.

The Back To Black hitmaker left the facility last week (ends08Feb08) looking healthier and happier than in recent months and went on to wow the audience at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (10Feb08) with an impressive performance via satellite link-up.

And Mitch Winehouse insists the newspaper did the right thing by publishing the harrowing footage.

He says, "Thanks must go to The Sun for publishing the drugs video that helped turn my daughter's life around. Amy really wanted to get better herself this time - that was the most important factor in any recovery.

"But The Sun showing a film of Amy at her lowest gave her that extra kick she needed. The video turned out to be a blessing - as it led to my daughter going into rehab."

And Mitch is convinced the star will complete her comeback at the forthcoming Brit Awards on 20 February (08).

He adds, "The Grammys were Amy's first goal and her next is to go to the Brit Awards, where she wants to be well enough to appear in person."

KYLIE TO COVER UP

Australian popstar KYLIE MINOGUE is planning on toning down her sexy image and opting for more a more demure look ahead of her 40th birthday.

Kylie Minogue at Elle Style Awards held at the Westway Sports Centre. London, England - 12.02.08

The singer, who will celebrate the landmark birthday in May (08), is known for her flamboyant tour costumes. But her stylist reveals she is planning on dressing more modestly for her upcoming European tour later this year (08).

William Baker, who is credited with Minogue's fashion-conscious style, says the star will be working with top designer Jean Paul Gaultier to create a more mature look.

He says, "The next tour will see Kylie ageing gracefully. She's celebrating her 40th birthday this year so what we have planned is to move in the right direction.

"We're working with Jean Paul Gaultier on the costumes - he designed Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour. The outfits he designs are incredibly sophisticated. It's difficult in pop to remain young so what's the point?"

MADONNA'S POVERTY-STRICKEN DANCING DAYS

Pop superstar MADONNA is pleased she didn't pursue a career as a pole dancer - despite a monthly struggle to pay her rent.

Madonna at "Filth And Wisdom" world premiere at Zoopalast movie theatre - Berlin Film Festival 2008 (Berlinale). Berlin, Germany - 13.02.08

The singer, who grew up in Detroit, Michigan, moved to New York in 1977 in the hope of finding fame.

And despite struggling to make a living before her big break in 1982, Madonna is pleased she didn't resort to performing in seedy establishments.

She says, "If I look back to the beginning of my career I can recall those moments of struggle like it was yesterday.

"The cold harsh reality when I arrived in New York (was) to find that there were thousands of girls that wanted to do the same thing, and I wasn't so special after all - that I was never going to be able to pay the rent ... and that I was going to have to do other things to feed myself.

"I didn't resort to pole dancing - I did other things."

ALLEN'S TV SHOW FLOPS

LATEST: Pop star LILY ALLEN's new TV show has disappointed programme-makers by failing to attract a large enough audience when it aired on Tuesday (12Feb08) night.

Lily Allen takes a cigarette break from her appointment at a design consultant. London, England - 13.02.08

The singer has taken a break from music to record Lily And Friends - a chat show featuring celebrity guests and live music - to be shown on British digital channel BBC3.

But according to official figures the show's debut episode only attracted 255,000 viewers - just two per cent of the potential audience.

A BBC spokesman called it a "solid start" but the news has fuelled speculation the programme will not be commissioned for a second series.

It had been previously reported that members of the studio audience were so disappointed with Allen's performance they got up and left before the cameras finished rolling.

But the 22-year-old hitmaker denied people were "bored of the content" insisting audience members only walked out because recording went on for longer than expected.

CASSIDY'S WOMEN PROBLEMS

Former pop heart-throb DAVID CASSIDY was 'lonely' at the height of his stardom - because he hardly ever met any women.

David Cassidy at The 9th Annual Family Television Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Los Angeles, California - 28.11.07

The 57-year-old singer, who also starred in The Partridge Family TV show, admits that although it was "fun" to have legions of teenage fans, his fame didn't allow him to socialise like most other young men.

He explains, "I had no life. I was physically and professionally 25, but emotionally I was 19. I hadn't, other than the girl who became my wife, had a date.

"It was very difficult to meet women - not young girls, because a lot of them were young girls.

"I wanted to have that relationship. I felt very isolated and lonely."

Cassidy went on to wed three times, he is currently in a relationship songwriter Sue Shifrin-Cassidy who he married in 1991.

CHEETAH GIRLS CREATOR SLAMS DISNEY OVER PROFITS

THE CHEETAH GIRLS creator DEBORAH GREGORY has hit out at Disney bosses, alleging they've cheated her out of millions of dollars.

Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan, and Kiely Williams of the Cheetah Girls at the World Premiere of Disney's 'Enchanted' held at the El Capitan theatre. Hollywood, California - 17.11.07

The author wrote the original 16-book Cheetah Girls series which has gone onto become a hugely popular music and TV teen phenomenon.

Gregory claims she's only been paid $125,000 (GBP62,500) by Disney over the last nine years and that her repeated requests for "net profit participation statements" have fallen on deaf ears.

In an interview conducted inside her rented New York apartment, Gregory tells the Los Angeles Times, "People think I must be living in a palace, when they think of the success of The Cheetah Girls. But look at this place. It's a dump.

"I never dreamed things would turn out the way they did. I really believed I would be able to share in everything that was created, that I was going to be a participant. Well, honey, that was a sham.

"I'm someone who grew up in foster care with nothing. I have no family to this day. And what The Cheetah Girls represents to me and others is a chance to get out of the ghetto. It's a chance to transcend your background through sheer talent."

Disney spokeswoman Patti McTeague says, "Disney Channel doesn't comment on the terms of its contracts."

CHRISTIE FILM INSPIRES REESE TO DIRECT

REESE WITHERSPOON is keen to make her directorial debut after old pal SARAH POLLEY impressed her with AWAY FROM HER.

REESE WITHERSPOON

Actress Polley turned director to make the harrowing film, which has earned veteran Julie Christie a string of awards and an Oscar nomination - inspiring the Legally Blonde star to step behind the camera.

Already a celebrated producer, Witherspoon desperately wants to make a movie.

She says, "I'm inching toward directing, I have to say. Be very afraid. I'm tackling that next, but it's very inspiring to see Sarah Polley, who I used to audition with, direct Julie Christie hopefully to an Oscar. I think that's really inspiring."

Meanwhile, the Academy-Award winner is also looking for a "kick-ass" action role - like the ones Angelina Jolie plays.

She adds, "I love seeing Angelina Jolie in movies like Mr. And Mrs. Smith and I can't wait to see her in Wanted. I love those movies where women have great strength and character.

"I'd love a kick-ass female role, where I get to shoot somebody in the neck or the knee - nothing permanent."

MOVIES THIS WEEK

Release Date: February 14, 2008

DEFINITELY, MAYBE

Cast: Abigail Breslin, Elizabeth Banks, Isla Fisher, Rachel Weisz, Ryan Reynolds

Synopsis: Ryan Reynolds stars as Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10 year-old daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love.
Will’s story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on a presidential campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women.
Will hopelessly attempts a gentler version of his story for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who is the woman her father finally married. Is her mother Will’s college sweetheart, the dependable girl next-door Emily (Elizabeth Banks)? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, the apolitical April (Isla Fisher)? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz)?
As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad’s romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it’s definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.

JUMPER

Cast: Diane Lane, Hayden Christensen, Jamie Bell, Rachel Bilson, Samuel L. Jackson

Synopsis: A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between 'Jumpers' and those who have sworn to kill them.

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES

Cast: David Strathairn, Mary-Louise Parker, Nick Nolte, Seth Rogen, Freddie Highmore

Synopsis: From the beloved best-selling series of books comes 'The Spiderwick Chronicles,' a fantasy adventure for the child in all of us. Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family (Jared, his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory and their mom) leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Unable to explain the strange disappearances and accidents that seem to be happening on a daily basis, the family blames Jared. When he, Simon and Mallory investigate what's really going on, they uncover the fantastic truth of the Spiderwick estate and of the creatures that inhabit it.

STEP UP 2 THE STREETS

Cast: Cassie, Briana Evigan, Robert Hoffman, Telisha Shaw, Will Kemp

Synopsis: STEP UP 2 THE STREETS is the follow-up to the smash hit “Step Up,” which ignited theaters in August 2006. When rebellious street dancer Andie (BRIANA EVIGAN) lands at the elite Maryland School of the Arts, she finds herself fighting to fit in while also trying to hold onto her old life. When she joins forces with the school’s hottest dancer Chase (ROBERT HOFFMAN) to form a crew of classmate outcasts to compete in Baltimore’s underground dance battle The Streets, she ultimately finds a way to live her dream while building a bridge between her two separate worlds.
Featuring the directorial debut of award-winning up-and-comer Jon M. Chu, STEP UP 2 THE STREETS reunites much of the production team behind the original film including “Step Up’s” cutting-edge hip-hop choreographer Jamal Sims, who is joined this time by choreographers Hi-Hat (“hip-hop’s high diva of dance”) and Dave Scott (“Stomp the Yard”). Patrick Wachsberger & Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment produce with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot of Offspring Entertainment.
Look for the hot Atlantic Records soundtrack exclusively featuring the smash hit “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain, plus new singles and videos from Missy Elliott, Enrique Iglesias featuring Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Plies featuring Akon, Cassie, Kevin Michael featuring Wyclef, Cherish featuring Yung Joc and more.
