WINEHOUSE STEALS THE SHOW WITH FIVE GRAMMYS

AMY WINEHOUSE stole the show at the 50th Grammy Awards, winning five top honours.

KANYE WEST

Kanye West was nominated for eight awards and went home with four prizes, including Rap Album, Rap Performance and Rap Song; Bruce Springsteen picked up three, including Best Rock Song. The White Stripes, Justin Timberlake and Mary J. Blige all won two.

But the night was dominated by Winehouse, who picked up all but one of the awards she was nominated for - Record of the Year for Rehab; Album of the Year for Back to Black; Best New Artist; Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Black; Song of the Year for Rehab; and Best Female Vocal Performance for Rehab.

The troubled singer seemed destined to make the biggest headlines of the night. Last week (ends8Feb08) she made arrangements to leave drug rehab in London to attend the Grammys, but was banned from travelling to Los Angeles because of a drugs conviction in Norway last October (07).

The U.S. embassy in London handed her a last minute reprieve on Friday - but she opted to stay in the U.K. and perform via a satellite link-up.

At a studio in London, surrounded by family and friends she sang her hits You Know I'm No Good and Rehab, paying tribute to her jailed husband Blake Fielder-Civil in both.

When she was presented with the Record of the Year, she dedicated it to "My Dad, my Mum, my Blake. My incarcerated Blake. And this is for London."

Winehouse also made history on Sunday (10Feb08) joining an elite club of female artists to have won five awards in one night, alongside Lauryn Hill in 1999, Alicia Keys in 2002, Norah Jones in 2003, Beyonce in 2004 and The Dixie Chicks in 2007. No one has ever won more - and Winehouse is the first British female artist to achieve the feat.

Elsewhere, the spectacular ceremony was marked by performances from great artists past and present, including Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. It was opened by Alicia Keys duetting with the late Frank Sinatra and closed by Will.I.am.

The full list of Grammy Award winners is as follows:

Record Of The Year

Rehab - Amy Winehouse

Album of the Year

River: The Joni Letters - Herbie Hancock
