SPEARS' FATHER CAN FIRE MANAGER
BRITNEY SPEARS' father has strengthened his control over her affairs with an order to fire her business manager.

Howard Grossman has been notified of a court order granting Jamie Spears the right to fire him as the singer's business manager.
Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner Reva Goetz also ordered Grossman to turn over "all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears" to her father.
Goetz issued her decision after an emergency closed-door hearing on Thursday (07Feb08), but the order was made public after website TMZ obtained a copy of legal papers on Friday (08Feb08).
Grossman has refused to confirm if he has been fired or how long he has worked for Spears, adding, "My reputation speaks for itself."
The move comes after Spears' mother Lynne accused her daughter's self-styled manager, Sam Lutfi, of drugging her to take control of her home and finances.

A spokesperson for McCartney says, "It's no big deal. They are just friends."

HILL FORCED TO WITHDRAW FROM FRANKLIN TRIBUTE CONCERT
Country singer FAITH HILL was forced to cancel her performance at a tribute to soul legend ARETHA FRANKLIN after contracting a bronchial infection.

The 40-year-old was scheduled to join American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Shirley Caesar, the Blues Brothers and Bill Cosby on Friday (08Feb08) to honour the Respect hitmaker as 2008's Person of the Year award, as named by MusiCares, a Recording Academy charity supporting music education.
Hill says, "I am devastated and deeply disappointed. I have been looking forward to being part of this event for months, and even after being diagnosed with a bronchial infection I came to Los Angeles anyway hoping that I'd be able to sing. I simply can't.
"Aretha is a musical hero and she deserves all of the accolades that she receives. I only hope that I'll get the chance to be a part of something like this in the future."
Franklin, 65, is set to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (10Feb08), where she is nominated for her 18th award for Best Gospel Performance for a duet with R+B star Mary J. Blige.

Sands fears attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan has gone too far in his custody battle with Spears - and he felt he could no longer be part of team Federline.
He explains, "This is overkill, it made my stomach turn. Every time we had to go into court, yes we have to protect the kids. But every mother, healthy or unhealthy should see their kids... You can't blame someone for mental illness.
"Mark Vincent Kaplan needs to lay off. Everyone has to lay off before Britney dies accidentally."
Sands urges Los Angeles authorities to put "bipolar Britney" in hospital "for a year" and let her see her kids.
Thanks to Kaplan's efforts, Spears has been stripped of her custody and visitation rights to her kids by Federline.
And he thinks it's time for Spears' ex to "step up to the plate" and stop hiding behind his attorney.
Michael Sands, who severed ties with Mark Vincent Kaplan earlier this week (ends08Feb08), admits he's disturbed about Federline's reluctance to speak publicly about his ex-wife's health issues.
Sands believes Federline is the best parent to govern the former couple's young sons, but the public relations expert would like to see Britney's ex speak out.
He tells America's Life + Style magazine, "Kevin Federline needs to get on TV and say, 'I'm learning about Britney's bipolar disorder.'
"He needs to step up to the plate and not hide behind the shield of his lawyer and be a man. He could become a hero instead of hiding... He's got to step up and help Britney."

MAY: 'I DIDN'T KNOW MERCURY WAS GAY'
QUEEN guitarist BRIAN MAY insists he had no idea bandmate FREDDIE MERCURY was gay - assuming the parading frontman was just flamboyant.

May met the late star in 1970 but claims it was not until the 1980s that he realised the frontman's sexuality - because Mercury began to bring men with "that particular Adonis look" backstage.
He recalls, "When I shared a room with him on tour in the early days I can assure you it was girls who generally stayed overnight.
"But he seemed to be what these days you would call metrosexual. He was into his hair, his clothes - he definitely led the way with regard to preening."
But the 60-year-old is adamant the singer - who died of AIDS complications in 1991 - was much shyer than his strutting onstage persona.
He adds, "We all were - and Freddie was probably more shy than any of us. His way of coping was to act like a god on stage."

IDLEWILD ALBUM DELAYED BY INJURY
Scottish rockers IDLEWILD have been forced to delay writing their next album after guitarist ALLAN STEWART injured his hand.

The band was due to begin recording their seventh studio album this year (08) - but are instead following in the example of fellow British group Blur, who famously wrote new material by "sitting round a table for lunch."
Frontman Roddy Woomble explains, "Song writing sessions with Allan were postponed after he fractured his right hand play fighting.
"We're taking a page out of Blur's book, and have been meeting up for lunch instead."
It is not the first injury to befall the band. In October (07), guitarist Rod Jones fell down a flight of stairs and fractured his arm, almost resulting in the cancellation of the band's U.K. tour.

TRAVIS STAR ESCAPES INJURY AFTER CONCERT FALL
TRAVIS frontman FRAN HEALY is pleased his guitarist escaped serious injury when he slipped over at a concert on Wednesday (06Feb08).

Andy Dunlop was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken ankle, but was released after doctors found no fracture.
The 35-year-old was climbing over a security barrier during the band's performance in Cambridge, England, when he slipped.
And Healy is grateful the injury was not as severe as previously suspected.
In a message on the band's website, he writes: "Andy was taken to hospital, where an X-ray showed no break. So all is well."

KISS star GENE SIMMONS enjoyed a blast from the past last week (beg04Feb08) when he turned TV reporter for a U.S. show, and interviewed his ex-girlfriend CHER.

The rocker became a special correspondent for news show Extra when producers wanted an interesting twist to a Cher interview.
The two old friends chatted about Cher's upcoming Las Vegas residency, her beauty tips and political leanings, but the interview quickly turned saucy.
When Simmons asked her about her love life, Cher revealed, she dated three men at the same time "not so long ago," explaining how she juggled them all.
She smiled, "One, one day. One, one day, and one, one day... (It was the) second time I ever did it my entire life."
Cher also came clean about her drug use, telling the Kiss star, "I smoked pot, like, five times in the `70s because I wanted to be cool, but it made me sick so I didn't do it (again)."
And she insisted she was never tempted to try harder drugs: "It scared me. I never saw drugs do anything good for anyone. I just saw drugs bring everyone down."

JANET JACKSON had to switch seats when she first saw PRINCE live - because she couldn't bear to watch the sexy star perform while sitting next to her God-fearing mother.

The Nasty singer was just a teenager when she begged her mother Katherine - a devout Jehovah's Witness, for tickets to see her hero.
Mum agreed her daughter could go to the show, but insisted on chaperoning her.
Jackson tells Parade.com, "Being a Jehovah's Witness, you grow up in a very religious world. But, as a kid, I loved Prince and The Time - one of my favourite groups.
"I would listen to them all the time, even though you're not supposed to do that. When I was 16, I was promoting my first album and I went with Mother to see The Time's concert with Prince.
"I did not want to sit next to Mother because I knew they were dirty. I was trying to be cool and calm, but oh my God, I was sweating bullets: `She's going to think, Good Lord, what is my baby into? She really needs more of God in her life! Where did I go wrong?' I could just hear Mother blaming herself for everything!
"Luckily, I got someone else to swap seats with me so I was able to enjoy the show."
Ironically, Prince was the leading chart rival of Janet's brother Michael throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

BLANCHETT GIVES EULOGY TO LEDGER AT MEMORIAL SERVICE
Actress CATE BLANCHETT and HEATH LEDGER's parents paid tribute to the late actor with moving eulogies at a memorial service in his hometown of Perth, Australia on Saturday (09Feb08).

More than 600 family members, friends and fans gathered to bid farewell to the Brokeback Mountain star, where his I'm Not There co-star Blanchett gave a funny and touching eulogy about their time spent together.
Mourners watched a photo montage dedicated to Ledger's family and daughter Matilda, his two-year-old with former fiance Michelle Williams. The actress was in attendance but did not bring Matilda to the service at Penrhos College, a private girls' school.
Ledger's father Kim addressed the media earlier in the day to ask for privacy as the family attended a private funeral service at Fremantle Cemetery, where the body was cremated.
He told reporters, "It's a pretty sad time and we're finding it difficult to cope by ourselves, let alone cope with everybody around the world.
"Having said that we do really appreciate the outpouring and the emotional support from all over the world, which, suffice to say, we're luckier than most families, most families that are in our position, our grieving position, don't have that kind of support. So thank you all very much. That's all I've got to say.''
Ledger was found dead at his New York apartment on 22 January (08), aged just 28. Toxicology results released on Wednesday (06Feb08) revealed he was killed by an accidental overdose of prescribed medication.

LATEST: Hollywood star NICOLAS CAGE has begun legal proceedings against his PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED co-star KATHLEEN TURNER after she accused him of drunk driving and theft in her new autobiography.

In the autobiography, Send Yourself Roses, the 53-year-old insists Cage went to great lengths to disobey his uncle and the director of the 1986 comedy, Francis Ford Coppola - and even got in trouble with the police while filming.
Turner writes, "Everything Francis (Ford Coppola) wanted him (Cage) to do, he went against to show that he wasn't under his uncle's wing. Which was ridiculous. Oh, that stupid voice of his and the fake teeth! Honestly, I cringe to think about it. He caused so many problems.
"He was arrested twice for drunk driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He'd come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket."
On Friday (08Feb08) Cage, 44, has issued libel proceedings against the actress at the High Court in London.
A spokesman for the actor says, "The libel action follows false allegations that appear in the forthcoming autobiography. As legal proceedings have been commenced, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

DAWSON ENCOURAGES HISPANICS TO VOTE
ROSARIO DAWSON is leading a campaign to encourage Hispanic Americans to vote in the forthcoming presidential election.

The actress is proud of her Afro Cuban/Puerto Rican/American Indian Irish heritage, but frustrated that fewer than one third of the U.S. vast Hispanic population votes.
She has co-founded a group called Voto Latino, which seeks to help those eligible to vote make it to polls on voting day.
She tells Glamour magazine, "This is such an important election. We're trying to tell people, 'Listen, you have rights.'"
Dawson, 28, isn't a stranger to campaigning - she marched with her mother as a small child in New York.

Synopsis: It’s New Year’s Eve in the city of Terminus and chaos is this year’s resolution. All forms of communication have been jammed by an enigmatic transmission that preys on fear and desire driving everyone in the city to murder and madness. In a place once marked by conformity but now sent into complete anarchy, the rebellious Ben must save the woman he loves from the bedlam in the streets as well as her crazed sadistic husband. But the only way he can tell who to trust or who has given in to violence is by uncovering the true nature of The Signal.
Told in three parts from three unique perspectives by three visionary directors, The Signal was originally conceived as an experimental film project called Exquisite Corpse where one filmmaker would begin a story then hand it off to another filmmaker to continue and then to another and so on until the movie was complete. The story eventually took shape and evolved into a scifi/ horror/thriller that imagines a world where everyday anxieties become the catalyst for inhuman terror. The Signal is a horrific journey towards discovering that the most brutal monster might actually be within all of us.
