BRUNI + SARKOZY WIN AIRLINE LAWSUIT
Former supermodel CARLA BRUNI and her new husband, French President NICOLAS SARKOZY, have successfully sued a budget airline after the firm used a photograph of the couple without permission.

The pair was awarded $90,000 (GBP45,000/60,000 euros) in compensation after arguing that Irish company Ryanair published their picture in an advert without seeking the proper authorisation.
The sum falls well short of the 500,000 euros ($740,500/GBP370,250) which Bruni originally demanded, whereas Sarkozy only requested a symbolic payment of just one euro ($1.47/73 pence).
Ryanair, based in Dublin, was also ordered to have the court ruling printed in Le Parisien newspaper, where the advert appeared last week (ends01Feb08).
The offending image was accompanied by a caption which read: "With Ryanair, my whole family can come to my wedding."
After months of rumours the couple finally wed in an intimate ceremony in Paris on Saturday (01Feb08).

Legendary director STEVEN SPIELBERG has hit back at MIA FARROW after the actress accused him of supporting the Chinese funding of the genocide in Darfur.

Farrow, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and human rights activist, is angry that Spielberg failed to turn down an invitation from the Chinese government to be an artistic advisor for the forthcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The Rosemary's Baby star insists the moviemaker should not get involved with China as the state has been accused of funding the war in the stricken West Sudanese state.
She says, "It has been nearly a year since Mr. Spielberg contacted President Hu about Beijing's role in the Darfur genocide. Given the deteriorating situation on the ground, we hope that Mr. Spielberg will waste no more time - and officially distance himself from the Games."
However, a representative for Spielberg has refuted Farrow's suggestions. Andy Spahn insists the director is doing all he can to help stop the atrocities in Darfur - even spearheading the campaign led by George Clooney and Don Cheadle to bring the world's attention to the crisis.
He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "Steven left the set of his Indiana Jones movie to fly to New York to meet with the Chinese delegation. He is totally committed to stopping the genocide in Darfur."

ERIC DANE BATTLING CANCER
GREY'S ANATOMY star ERIC DANE has been battling skin cancer since he was diagnosed with the deadly illness last month (Jan08).

The 35-year-old actor became concerned after noticing an unusual patch of skin above his lips and immediately sought medical treatment.
He tells U.S. OK magazine, "I went to my dermatologist. He said it was malignant tissue caused by sun damage."
Doctors treated the growth by freezing it off with liquid nitrogen and Dane admits it was a traumatic procedure.
He adds, "My skin is very sensitive and my lip was traumatized by the procedure I had to go through. I didn't eat very well for a couple of weeks and lost a bunch of weight."
Despite dropping over 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) during his ordeal, the actor now insists he is on the road to recovery.

JACKSON MOVES TO BERLIN AFTER FALLING OUT OF LOVE WITH LONDON
STEPPIN' OUT hitmaker JOE JACKSON has relocated to Berlin, Germany because it reminds him of his adopted New York 25 years ago.

The British singer-songwriter has become a fixture in the U.S. for two decades, but now he's moved back to Europe after falling in love with the city while recording his new album.
Jackson tells Paste magazine, "It's a bit like New York... before it got all generic.
"I like the bohemian flavour. I'm a bohemian who against the odds, has made a bit of money."
Jackson insists he's no longer a fan of London after living there before making the move to the German capital.
He explains, "I couldn't take it any more. Everyone was so mean... All they talk about is money and real estate... I don't want to hang out with people like that.
"It's getting harder and harder to find a place where you can live like a human being."

SIR CLIFF RICHARD has slammed music critics who fail to recognise the major part he has played in shaping the history of rock 'n' roll.

The veteran pop star - who has enjoyed a career spanning over five decades - has lashed out at the music writers who ignore the massive impact he's had on the music industry, simply because he's not universally liked.
He says, "My only gripe is when critics writing the history of rock 'n' roll leave me out all together. They're doing history a disservice.
"You can't write about Kings and Queens and leave them out because you didn't like them. But I'm not going to commit suicide over it. The public know what I've done."

TUNSTALL PUTS FESTIVALS BEFORE MARRIAGE
Scottish singer KT TUNSTALL has assured fans she won't let her upcoming wedding clash with the summer (08) festival season.

The Suddenly I See star desperately wants the sun to shine on her wedding day - but she's not prepared to sacrifice festival dates to marry her band's drummer Luke Bullen.
So the rocker is hoping the good weather will continue into September.
The 32-year-old says, "There are so many festivals this summer and we both love playing live so we want to find a way that we don't have to miss any live events and have a wedding date while there is still a chance of good weather.
"And we don't want to be rushing away from our service to get on stage. That leaves us with a very small window, a few dates in September or if we're lucky with the weather, early October."

LUTFI TO WRITE SPEARS BOOK
BRITNEY SPEARS' manager/companion SAM LUTFI is planning on writing a book about the star's troubled personal life.

Lutfi, who was served with a restraining order on Friday (01Feb08) and instructed to stay away from Spears, has been asking the troubled singer to dictate her memoirs to him and is looking forward to putting the notes into a book.
Last year (07) Lutfi denied he was planning on selling Spears' private diaries to U.K. publications for a reported $2 million (GBP1 million), but now it appears the intimate entries may take the form of a tell-all book instead.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "We've been doing dictation, she's (Spears) been telling me her story, and I've been writing it all down. It would make a great book!"
The Toxic hitmaker is currently being held at the UCLA Medical Center in California for psychiatric treatment and her parents went to court last week (ends01Feb08) in a bid to sever contact between Lutfi and their daughter.

LED ZEPPELIN REFORM FOR SECOND CONCERT
LED ZEPPELIN are to reunite for a second time to headline the 2008 Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival in the U.S.

Organisers for the event, which will be held over three days in June (08) in Manchester, Tennessee, have confirmed the legendary rockers will top the bill, which currently includes Metallica, Pearl Jam and Kanye West.
The announcement comes after months of speculation that the Stairway To Heaven hitmakers were planning on playing more live dates after they reformed for a one-off concert in London in December (07).
Founding members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones teamed up with Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John, to take to the stage at the O2 Arena for a tribute concert in honour of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
And the gig has been followed up by rumours of more shows and a possible world tour. But the band insist a full tour will have to wait until at least September (08), after frontman Plant finishes his promotional commitments with Alison Krauss.

Troubled star AMY WINEHOUSE has been questioned by police over footage showing her allegedly smoking crack cocaine.

The Back To Black singer was filmed by a friend at her east London home, with the harrowing video showing the star allegedly taking a variety of illegal substances passed on to British newspaper The Sun last month (Jan08).
The footage was later seized by police, with Winehouse questioned for two hours on Tuesday (05Feb08) at the Capio Nightingale clinic where she is undergoing a rehabilitation program.
Winehouse checked into the rehab facility in London on 24 January (08), just six days after the video of her allegedly taking drugs surfaced.
However police insist the singer is "co-operating well" with their inquiries.
Any police action taken against the singer because of the footage could have a bearing on her hopes for a U.S. visa - Winehouse has applied to enter the country to attend the Grammys in Los Angeles on 10 February (08), where she is nominated for six awards.

WATSON COMPLETES TREATMENT, RETAINS SIGHT AND VOICE
LATEST: Opera star RUSSELL WATSON has completed a five-week course of radiotherapy to eradicate a recurrent brain tumour.

It was feared the singer could lose his eyesight or voice following the treatment, however Giles Baxendale, Watson's manger, insists this does not appear to be the case.
And 41-year-old Watson has thanked his family, friends and fans for their support during a tough time.
Writing on his blog, he says, "I'm not out of the woods yet. I dearly wanted to keep the side-effects to a minimum and I've been keeping myself fit and healthy as I can, but I'm afraid they've caught up with me, and I don't mind admitting I've not been myself.
"I'm just so lucky I've had friends, family, and of course my fans to help me through; I really don't think I could do this without the support I've had."
Watson had surgery on the tumour - which grew close to his optic nerve - last October (07), his second operation on the cancer in 12 months.

MILLS TO SUE LAW FIRM FOR 'BAD REPRESENTATION'

The model/activist is set to face her husband in court next week (begs10Feb08) during a scheduling hearing as part of their divorce proceedings, but could be facing another legal battle with former lawyers Mischon de Reya.
The legal firm dumped Mills in November last year (08), reportedly because the star defied a gag on talking about the couple's daughter Beatrice, four.
In December (08), the company threatened legal action over $4 million (GBP2 million) in outstanding bills in relation to her bitter divorce from McCartney, and are said to be keen to press ahead with the case.
However, Mills is planning to countersue Mischon de Reya over allegations of "bad representation".
Mills and McCartney's divorce case will continue next week (begs10Feb08) - with Mills representing herself in court.
The couple split in 2006.

AARDMAN ANIMATIONS LEAD BRITISH ANIMATION AWARD NOMINATIONS
WALLACE AND GROMIT creators Aardman Animations are leading this year's (08) British Animation Awards with a total of four nominations.

The U.K. production company has picked up nods in categories including Best Short Film for The Pearce Sisters and Best Children' Series for Shaun The Sheep: Still Life.

Director Burton previously picked up the honour for animated movie The Corpse Bride in 2006.
The winners will be announced on 13 March (08) in a ceremony at London's National Film Theatre.

LUNDGREN NAMES STALLONE AS ACTING MENTOR
Swedish action veteran DOLPH LUNDGREN slates SYLVESTER STALLONE as his 'mentor' - because the Rambo star gave him his first big Hollywood break.

The Rambo star hired Lundgren to play fierce Russian boxer Ivan Drago in the classic 1980's hit Rocky IV - a role that led to a string of high-profile action projects.
However, The Masters Of The Universe star wasn't used to the excesses of Hollywood, and regrets enjoying the trappings of fame instead of focusing on his acting career.
The 50-year-old says, "I'm grateful to Stallone because on Rocky IV he took me under his wing and acted like my mentor. We trained together and (he) showed me the ropes.
"I was just a kid from a small place in Sweden and suddenly I'm making all this money. So I enjoyed myself. My only regret is I didn't plan my career as meticulously as some of my peers."

Filmmaker PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON is so amused by his oil drama THERE WILL BE BLOOD, it makes him laugh out loud.

The historical epic - which stars Daniel Day-Lewis as an empire-building oil tycoon - is irrefutably dramatic, but Anderson, 37, insists he aimed to make the film an "uplifting" experience for moviegoers.
He says, "I see so much humour in this story, it makes me laugh - at least, how absurd it all gets.
"I remember feeling that we can't just be grim, we have to have some humour in here. We didn't want it just to be dark. I always thought at the very least that it should be uplifting."

MACLAINE CONVINCED PET DOG SPEAKS TO HER
Veteran actress SHIRLEY MacLAINE is convinced her pet dog can communicate with her.

The Terms Of Endearment star owns 11 other canines but insists her relationship with rat terrier Terry is so unique, pet and owner understand one another.
She says, "I talk to her and she answers me. I have serious discussions with her and I'm convinced that on some level she really listens.
"She is selective about the questions she answers, though. For instance, she likes the question, 'What shall we do next in the kitchen?' Other questions she just thinks are a waste of time."

ORBISON LENDS NAME TO NEW BEETLE
Late singer ROY ORBISON has been awarded a bizarre posthumous honour - by having a species of beetle named after him.
The Pretty Woman star, who died in 1988 aged 52, will lend his name to the Orectochilus Orbisonorum, a new species of Indian whirligig beetle.
Quentin Wheeler, Arizona State University entomologist announced the naming during a tribute concert for the star in the state last month (Jan08), saying the honour was "a token of admiration for Roy's work".
Orbison's widow Barbara says, "I have never seen an honour like that."

FORMER EVANESCENCE DRUMMER REUNITES CHRISTIAN GROUP
Ex-EVANESCENCE drummer ROCKY GRAY has reformed his old band.
Gray, who left Evanescence in May 2007 after he was reportedly sacked by singer Amy Lee, has reunited with his former Christian rock group Living Sacrifice.
A statement on Gray's MySpace webpage reads: "The band will be on tour this summer and we are already writing material for our brand new album, which will be released in 2008."
Gray was so angry at his dismissal from Evanescence that just two weeks later he auctioned off the gold and platinum plaques he received as a member of the group on website eBay.

BEATLES' GURU MARHARISHI YOGI DIES
MAHARISHI MAHESH YOGI, the Indian guru credited with helping the BEATLES find 'spiritual enlightenment' has died. He was thought to be 91.
Yogi died in his sleep at his home in the Netherlands on Tuesday (05Feb08), after announcing his retirement last month (Jan08) to devote his last days to studying ancient Hindu texts.
Bob Roth, his spokesman, says, "He had been saying he had done what he set out to do,"
The Maharishi - who trained as a physicist in his home country before turning to the teachings of religion - devoted his life to spreading the message of transcendental meditation, which helps the executor of the technique reach a "state of pure consciousness".
He first introduced the technique to the U.S. in 1959, with the Fab Four visiting the spiritualist in India in 1968 to gain enlightenment. However, the band later fell out with the Maharishi.
Transcendental meditation's 20-minute routine came to be widely used in the worlds of education, business and welfare to reduce stress and improve concentration, eventually building a following of five million people.
Since 1990, Yogi had lived in a 200-room mansion in Vlodrop, a Dutch village. He confined himself to only two rooms of the building, speaking to his advisors by video link as concerns over his health grew.
