LATEST: The SPICE GIRLS have issued a personal apology to fans across the globe for scrapping the last leg of their reunion tour.

The pop stars were due to play concerts in Cape Town, South Africa; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Beijing, China; and Sydney, Australia later this month (Feb08) - but due to the high demand for extra performances in London, their tour schedule changed and subsequent dates were never officially set.

And on Friday (01Feb08), the band - comprising of Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Victoria Beckham - announced the final leg of their concerts had been cancelled due to "family and personal commitments".

In a message to their devotees, they said: "It's been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again.

"Really sorry if we didn't get to see you this time around. We have other commitments in our lives now. But who knows what will happen next?"

The world tour will now end in Toronto, Canada on 26 February (08).

SIR CLIFF RICHARD has blasted pop legends THE BEATLES' musicianship - branding their guitar solos 'horrific'.

The veteran crooner dominated the British music charts when the Fab Four first appeared on the music scene in 1962 - and is in disbelief their poor guitar playing was deemed sufficient enough to be included on their debut album.

He says, "Some of the guitar is so out of tune it's unbelievable. I couldn't believe that here they were in this hi-tech age and they couldn't go back and do it with a tuned guitar."

And the 67-year-old insists he has enough hit records to back up his claims, adding: "I've sold more singles than... everybody."

WILLIAMS' FORMER MANAGER AWARDED LIBEL DAMAGES

Former TAKE THAT manager NIGEL MARTIN SMITH has been awarded libel damages by ROBBIE WILLIAMS' record company after the star suggested he had stolen money from the band in one of his solo songs.

Martin Smith won an undisclosed amount from the producers of Williams' Rudebox album, Chrysalis Records, for the defamatory lyrics at a hearing in London's High Court on Friday (01Feb08).

The record label apologised and claimed it did not intend to accuse Smith of theft in the song The 90s.

Williams, 33, has already issued a public apology to Smith and paid costs and damages of around $1 million (GBP500,000) following an earlier court ruling in December (07).

Advance copies given to media outlets contained the libelous lyrics - but the words were changed before the 2006 LP was released to the public.

SPEARS DROPPED AS STYLE MANSION PARTY HOST

BRITNEY SPEARS has been dropped as the host of a lavish Beverly Hills St. Valentine's Day gift party because organisers fear she's too ill to attend.

Spears is currently in hospital on a 72-hour psychiatric hold following an intervention at her Hollywood Hills home in the early hours of Thursday morning (31Jan08).

Hjelmbak tells People.com, "Britney is not being fired, nor is she deemed unfit for the role as a host.

"I have decided to give some of the proceeds from the sales of VIP passes to a charity of Britney Spears' choice."

MORRISSEY SCRAPS LONDON DATES

LATEST: MORRISSEY has disappointed hundreds of fans after declaring he will not be rescheduling a series of London gigs which were postponed due to illness last month (Jan08).

The former Smiths frontman was forced to scrap planned concerts at The Roundhouse in Camden, north London, on 25, 26 and 27 January (08) after losing his voice. His vocal problems began on the opening night, when he had to cut short his set after just three songs.

But organisers have failed to get the shows rescheduled and are now offering ticketholders full refunds.

In a statement, the promoters say: "We would like to extend our apologies to all of Morrissey's loyal fans over this unavoidable situation."

After a week's rest, Morrissey returned to the stage on Thursday (31Jan08) night in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to continue with the remainder of his U.K. tour.

The pop star's personal woes - which saw the singer being committed to Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center on Thursday morning (31Jan08) to undergo psychiatric evaluation - have become the subject of a carefully choreographed 14-minute dance, titled Meltdown.

The sequence at the Queen Elizabeth Hall was put together by choreographer Hubert Essakow for the Rambert Dance Company, and portrayed Spears' constant hounding by the paparazzi, including the moment she shaved off her blonde hair in February 2007.

The production culminated in Spears' character being carried off stage on a stretcher - just like the singer herself was last month (Jan08) following her three-hour stand off with emergency services outside her Beverly Hills home. That incident, which was sparked when she refused to hand back her two young sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline's minder following a scheduled visit, resulted in her being taken to hospital in an ambulance for her first mental evaluation.

Revealing the reason why he chose Spears as his dance topic, Essakow says, "(Her life is) a modern day tragedy. You can't open a newspaper without her being in it. I became obsessed by every detail of her life."

MORTON'S STALKER JAILED

A British man accused of stalking actress SAMANTHA MORTON has pleaded not guilty to two counts of harassment.

Noel Watts, 42, was said to have imagined a "fantasy relationship" with the Minority Report star, after becoming infatuated with her when he began dating one of her friends in the 1990s.

He had previously been handed a harassment order after bombarding Morton with telephone calls and text messages in 2004, and he attempted to contact the Golden Globe winner again in December (07). He was arrested in January (08) after breaking into the office of Morton's agent.

Appearing in London's City of Westminster Magistrates' Court for a pre-trial hearing on Friday (01Feb08), Watts denied the charges against him and told the judge that claims of

his "infatuation" have been exaggerated.

He said, "It's even been suggested that I'm infatuated. The women in my life don't feel threatened by my relationship with Miss Morton."

Watts - who has a previous conviction after he poured boiling water over his mother - was denied bail and has been remanded in custody until his trial on 11 March (08).

American police have narrowed down the search for the man who cruelly scammed a host of Hollywood stars by pretending to be the grieving father of late actor HEATH LEDGER.

An unknown man masquerading as Kim Ledger obtained the contact details of a number of movie stars and has contacted them since Ledger's death, seeking condolences and

requesting they attend the 28-year-old's funeral. John Travolta and Tom Cruise are among those reportedly conned.

The hoaxer was only spotted when he gave the stars a British telephone number to contact him on - and now U.S. authorities have tracked the suspect down to the small

apartment of a 35-year-old living in Scarborough, England.

Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment last month (Jan08). His funeral is expected to take place in secret in his hometown of Perth, Australia, next week (begs03Feb08).

The search for the conman continues.

U.S. chat show host DAVID LETTERMAN publicly apologised to PARIS HILTON on Friday night (01Feb08) for hurting her feelings during an infamous 2007 interview.

The late-night TV presenter upset the socialite when he grilled her about her prison stint last year (07), and refused to change the subject when Hilton begged him to.

Before introducing the hotel heiress, Letterman said, "I made a fool of myself and I hurt the woman's feelings. I went too far."

The host revealed Hilton was adamant she'd never appear on the show again, but he tracked her down to apologise, sent her a letter and flowers, and implored her to change her mind: "I said... let me apologise to you in person.

"In 26 years of being on the air, I have offended thousands of people... but Paris, God bless her, has the backbone to come and be on the show."

True to his word, Letterman began his chat with Hilton by apologising for his behaviour during their previous encounter, prompting his smiling guest to say, "I hope you got the whole jail thing out of your system."

And the chat show host was on his best behaviour, chatting to Hilton about her new film and helping her to promote her own sparkling wine, cellphone videogame and shoe, jewellery, watch, scent and clothing lines.

The thrilled socialite had some kind words for the host when he asked her if she was glad to be back, stating, "You're being really well behaved so far. You're not being naughty."

And, after swearing she'd return, Letterman presented Hilton with a bunch of flowers.

GLITTER ACCUSED OF RAPING TEENAGE ARISTOCRAT

Disgraced rocker GARY GLITTER is facing more legal woes after a British aristocrat accused him of raping her when she was just 15 years old.

Vanessa Grey has kept the alleged abuse a secret for 17 years because she was too ashamed to speak out about it - but she has finally broken her silence in an effort to convince authorities to ban the fallen star from returning to his native U.K.

Glitter - real name Paul Gadd - is currently serving a three-year sentence in a Vietnam prison after he was convicted in 2006 of committing obscene acts with two Vietnamese girls, aged just 11 and 12.

But Gadd is reportedly set for an early release later this year (08) - and Grey, now 32, is disturbed by the thought of the 63-year-old becoming a free man.

Grey claims she first met Glitter in 1990 when she was 14 and was lured onto the star's luxury yacht on several occasions, where he often plied her with champagne. On one occasion, when she was drunk, she alleges Glitter forced her downstairs into the boat's cabin and performed a sex act on her - but was too "confused and vulnerable" to understand what was happening.

Weeks later, Grey claims Glitter invited her to his house, where he again gave her champagne and coaxed her into the bedroom before raping her.

She says, "Before I knew what was happening he had grabbed my head and forced it towards his crotch.

"I was numb with fear. I wanted him to stop and let me go. He was a man of 46 with painted eyebrows and bad breath and he stole my virginity...

"After that I never saw Glitter again. I was too ashamed and afraid to tell my parents. I ran away from home at 16 because I felt so sick and was scared Glitter was around every corner."

Grey has now told her story to the British authorities in the hope of bringing further charges against the singer.

She adds, "Thinking about what Glitter did to me still terrifies me. He left part of me permanently damaged. But the rape made me so utterly ashamed that it is only now - when I heard that he might be coming back to Britain - that I feel strong enough to tell police about my past."

Synopsis: Jean (Gad Elmaleh), a shy young bartender, is mistaken for a millionaire by a beautiful, scheming opportunist named Irene (Audrey Tautou). When Irene discovers his true identity, she abandons him, only to find that a love-struck Jean has no intention of letting her get away. Jean's comical attempts to gain her affections gradually evolve into setting himself up as a gigolo at a luxury hotel, until Irene finally starts to warm to her persistent, persuasive suitor. Synopsis: Academy Award-winning writer/director Martin McDonagh takes audiences on a killingly funny trip In Bruges , which is world-premiering as the opening-night film of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Mr. McDonagh makes his feature directorial debut on the film, from his own original screenplay. His plays (which include 'The Lieutenant of Inishmore' and 'The Pillowman') have brought him two Olivier Awards and four Tony Award nominations. He wrote and directed 'Six Shooter,' starring Brendan Gleeson, which earned him the 2006 Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film.

'In Bruges' was filmed on location; Bruges (pronounced 'broozh'), the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travellers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks.

Very much out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals, and cobbled streets, the two hit men fill their days living the lives of tourists. Ray, still haunted by the bloodshed in London, hates the place, while Ken, even as he keeps a fatherly eye on Ray's often profanely funny exploits, finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty and serenity of the city.

But the longer they stay waiting for Harry's call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor (Jordan Prentice) shooting a European art film, Dutch prostitutes, and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë (Clémence Poésy), who may have some dark secrets of her own.

And when the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray's vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences.
