Spoof movie MEET THE SPARTANS has narrowly beaten out competition from green beret RAMBO to laugh its way to the top of the U.S. box office chart.

The Carmen Electra-starring comedy debuted at number one with $18.73 million (GBP9.36 million) over the weekend (25-27Jan08).
At two is sequel Rambo, directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone, which took $18.15 million (GBP9.08 million), while 27 Dresses drops a place to three with $13.6 million (GBP6.8 million).
Monster movie Cloverfield falls three places to four with $12.7 million (GBP6.35 million), while Diane Lane movie Untraceable opens at five with $11.2 million (GBP5.6 million).
