Singer AMY WINEHOUSE has checked herself into rehab in a bid to kick her drug addicitons.
Amy Winehouse on her way to a meeting with her record label. London, England - 24.01.08
The move follows a meeting on Thursday (24Jan08) with her record label Universal, her management, family members and doctors.
It follows photographs published in the U.K. earlier this week (22Jan08) apparently showing the troubled star smoking crack cocaine.
A statement from Universal reveals Winehouse's rehab stint - at an undisclosed location - is a bid to help her kick her drug dependence in time to appear at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on 10 February (08). Winehouse is nominated for six awards.
The statement reads, "Amy Winehouse's planned appearance at the NRJ Awards in France on Saturday has been cancelled as the artist has entered a rehabilitation clinic.
"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors. She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards.
"Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned.
"Amy is the most talented and important musical artist of her generation and has made huge strides on her road to recovery. Universal Music Group wants nothing more than to see her take the time she needs to come back to full health and fulfil her incredible potential with the label.
"All concerned feel that Amy must put her health before all other considerations and will be by her side whenever and wherever they are needed."

Rapper GHOSTFACE KILLAH is threatening to quit the hip-hop industry - because his fans would rather download his new album for free instead of buying it legitimately.
GHOSTFACE KILLAH of the Wu-Tang Clan
The Wu-Tang Clan star's latest disc, The Big Doe Rehab, debuted at number 41 on the U.S. Billboard album chart with sales of approximately 36,000 upon its release in early December (07), but has failed to shift more units to move higher up in the charts.
And the MC - real name Dennis Coles - is contemplating retiring from the rap game because he doesn't feel appreciated by his fanbase.
In footage posted on video-sharing website YouTube, he says, "I thought y'all motherf**kers loved me, man. You know I go all out for y'all, and I love y'all man, but y'all n**gas be hurtin' the kid, because y'all don't wanna go cop (buy) our CD, you feel me? Y'all rather download our s**t.
"If y'all really rollin with the kid, snap out that s**t man. This is real talk... It's comin' from your homey... Y'all n**gas gonna make me leave the game based on n**gas doin' s**t like that man. I thought y'all loved me. Go cop that CD man, even if you downloaded that s**t, go to the store and cop that. If you really love your man."

SIR ELTON JOHN is suing his longtime business manager BOB HALLEY.
The Rocket Man star, 60, issued a High Court writ against Halley earlier this week (begs21Jan08) for reasons as yet unknown.
Halley has been one of John's longest serving aides - working for the star for over 30 years - and previously worked as the singer's personal assistant and chauffeur before landing the role of business manager.
But this is not the first time the rocker has taken an aide to court - in 2000 John filed a multi-million pound High Court battle against ex-manager John Reid, after claiming the employee had mishandled his business affairs.

An eerie video featuring HEATH LEDGER 'drowning' himself is offering a few clues into the actor's mental state.
The black and white film, which Ledger shot and screened at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle, Washington last year (07), featured the troubled actor committing suicide to the soundtrack of tragic singer-songwriter Nick Drake's Black Eyed Dog.
Drake's estate now owns the footage, titled A Place To Be, which Ledger also screened at a celebration of the late singer in Los Angeles in October (07).
The short film concludes with Ledger drowning himself in a bathtub.
Black Eyed Dog is believed to be the last song Drake wrote before overdosing on anti-depressant amitriptyline.
Ledger had often spoken about his dreams of playing Drake on the big screen.
Further clues about Ledger's mental state can be found in one of the star's final interviews, which the actor gave to Cleveland, Ohio TV network WJW-Fox in November (07).
Asked what fatherhood to his two-year-old daughter Matilda had brought him, Ledger said, "You look at death differently... I feel good about dying now because I feel like I'm alive in her, but at the same hand (sic), you don't wanna die because you want to be around for the rest of her life."
Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on Tuesday (22Jan08). An autopsy carried out on Wednesday (23Jan08) failed to reveal how the actor died, although police believe his death is drug-related as sleeping pills were found strewn around his apartment.

Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY's pre-Christmas (07) desperate efforts to stay drug-free and sober are to be recounted in the upcoming issue of America's Spin magazine.
Reporter Nick Duerden spent three weeks with the Babyshambles frontman as he attempted to rebuild his reputation as a reliable rock star through twice-a-week rehab sessions.
Doherty told the journalist that rehab was helping to make him a better songwriter.
The British rocker, who is more famous for his drug troubles than his music and poetry, told Duerden that therapy sessions were turning him into the artist he always dreamed of becoming.
He told the reporter, "I'm only just now starting to enjoy making music, I'm only just starting to be allowed to.
"What drove me to drugs in the first place is still there - I'm still a bit raw, I think - but this is the happiest and most positive time of my life."
He also bragged about a novel he started writing at the height of his drug use.
He revealed, "It's a sizzling gypsy tale, a rambling, shambling, melody of a of a novel that came about when I was still on the old fighting juice. (It's) fascinating stuff."
But the Spin expose's positive start tails off as Duerden attempts to complete his interview with a tired, haggard Doherty, who dismisses him from his tourbus and falls asleep during a car ride.
And all the time new stories about his drug use, various illnesses and legal woes pile up.

LATEST: BRITNEY SPEARS' legal team has withdrawn a request to quit the pop star's child custody case.
Attorneys for Los Angeles legal company Trope + Trope filed a motion requesting permission to withdraw as the singer's counsel at the beginning of January (08).
Her lawyers cited a "communication breakdown" with Spears for the request.
Los Angeles Commissioner Scott Gordon, who has overseen Spears' custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, agreed to set a date for a hearing into the lawyers' request.
But now Sorrel Trope and his colleagues have called off the 4 February (08) hearing, according to TMZ.com.
Trope + Trope representatives appeared to be tired of Spears' courthouse tardiness when she failed to appear for an emergency custody hearing on Tuesday (22Jan08).
The troubled pop star arrived at the courthouse in Los Angeles and passed through a metal detector, but reports suggest she fled before actually entering court.
When an impatient Gordon asked Spears' lawyer if the client would be appearing before him, as scheduled, he was told, "I don't know whether she'll be here or not."

Rocker PETE DOHERTY was left in floods of tears when pal AMY WINEHOUSE sang for him after he split from supermodel girlfriend KATE MOSS.
The Babyshambles frontman reveals Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil offered him a little moral support shortly after his well-publicised break-up from Moss in July 2007.
The couple visited Doherty just after he had moved to his country retreat in Marlborough, England and the rocker recalls being moved by the soul singer's voice.
He says, "She and Blake would come down a lot. We'd have a few drinkies and crisps and have a bit of a singsong.
"She had me in f**king tears when I'd just split with my missus, singing at me with this amazing voice."

BRITNEY SPEARS was caught up in new road accident as she and boyfriend ADNAN GHALIB tried to escape paparazzi in Hollywood on Tuesday night (22Jan08).
A motorcyclist lost control of his bike on the rain-soaked streets and slammed into Spears' white Mercedes, which was being driven by Ghalib.
The British snapper exchanged details with the biker as Spears sat in the car, chatting to concerned cameramen.
The cyclist was left cut and bruised following the collision but he declined help from the paparazzi, who asked him if he needed medical help.

HEATH LEDGER started 2008 committed to sobriety after a wild end to 2007, according to the sister of his model girlfriend GEMMA WARD.
Gemma Ward at Sephora FashionWeekLive, held at Fort Mason. San Francisco, California - 15.03.07
Australian stunner Sophie Ward reveals she spent Christmas (07) with the actor and admits he was one of the last people she expected to die in 2008.
In fact, Ward insists the Brokeback Mountain star was cleaner than most after committing to give up alcohol as a New Year's resolution.
She says, "He wasn't drinking any alcohol or taking drugs.
"He smoked cigarettes, but that's about it. He was drinking Diet Coke when we were together and he said he was very committed to not drinking alcohol."
And Ward is convinced drugs had nothing to do with Ledger's death on Tuesday (22Jan08), despite reports. She's also adamant the actor didn't commit suicide.
She adds, "He was clean and I don't believe he took his own life deliberately."
But the sister of Ledger's girlfriend admits the actor did seem on edge the last time they spoke: "He couldn't really relax... He said he was going to London but was quite upset because he couldn't see his daughter (Matilda) as much as he'd like to.
"He was travelling so much and I think he was just frustrated with it all."

Director: Vadim Perelman
Cast: Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood
Synopsis: Based on the best-selling novel by Laura Kasischke, Life Before Her Eyes is a dramatic thriller about Diana (Oscar-nominee Uma Thurman), a suburban wife and mother who begins to question her seemingly perfect life--and perhaps her sanity--on the 15th anniversary of a tragic high school shooting that took the life of her best friend. In flashbacks, Diana is a vibrant high schooler (played by Evan Rachel Wood of THIRTEEN and THE UPSIDE OF ANGER) who, with her shy best friend Maureen, plot typical teenage strategies--cutting class, fantasizing about boys--and vow to leave their sleepy suburb at the first opportunity. The older Diana, however, is haunted by the increasingly strained relationship she had with Maureen as day of the school shooting approached. These memories disrupt the idyllic life she's now leading with her professor husband Paul and their young daughter Emma. As older Diana's life begins to unravel and younger Diana gets closer and closer to the fatal day, a deeper mystery slowly unravels.

Actress MICHELLE WILLIAMS' father LARRY has used poetry to describe his feelings following the death of his daughter's tragic ex HEATH LEDGER.
Williams rushed to New York from Sweden, where she's shooting a new movie, upon hearing the news of her former fiance's death on Tuesday (22Jan08).
The actress is said to be "devastated" and now her father is speaking out about the man who was his granddaughter Matilda's daddy.
In a statement released on Wednesday (23Jan08), Larry Williams said, "I think Tennyson got it right in the poem when he described someone as having died at a young age but burning the candles at both ends, and oh what a beautiful flame he made, that was Heath.
"What a beautiful flame he made and a great talent. My heart goes out to everyone in his family and my family. The saddest thing is his daughter whom he just loved dearly."

Actress MICHELLE WILLIAMS opened up about her fears for her ex-fiance HEATH LEDGER in a recent interview that now seems oddly prophetic following the actor's death.
MICHELLE WILLIAMS and HEATH LEDGER
Speaking to website MovieHole.net last year (07), just before she and Ledger split up, Williams said her partner was deeply troubled by the personal attacks on his character from the media in his native Australia.
Ledger was left upset after he and Williams were attacked on the red carpet at the Australian Brokeback Mountain premiere by a photographer wielding a water pistol, according to the actress, who is said to be "devastated" about the death of her ex.
The attack came after two Aussie journalists claimed Ledger had spat at them.
Williams told MovieHole.com, "They've been really tough on Heath, and he takes it personally. They've been tossing out this stuff about him being a spitter, and it's just so mean, and it really hurts his feelings.
"He's not that way at all. It's not true. The only spitter in our house is (daughter) Matilda."
Meanwhile, Ledger's director friend Neil Armfield insists the actor was tormented about the fact he couldn't return to his native Australia - because the media hated him there.
He says, "A couple of paparazzi in Australia have sort-of realised that they can get a bit of a rise out of him. He's a boy, and they attacked him."
Armfield reveals the same snapper who squirted water at Ledger, turned up at the actor's home the following day.
He says, "He turns up at their house. He's ringing the doorbell all day - they have a new baby, remember - and he gets a news crew there, and they were just camped outside the house.
"He had a bunch of flowers, and said he wants to apologise to Michelle."

MEET THE SPARTANS
Cast: Carmen Electra, Kevin Sorbo, Diedrich Bader, Method Man, Sean Maguire
Synopsis: After successfully skewering Hollywood’s scariest movie (as two of the writers on “Scary Movie”), romantic comedy franchises (“Date Movie”), and Hollywood blockbusters (“Epic Movie”), writers/directors/producers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer now set their sights on “300.” The heroic Leonidas, armed with nothing but leather underwear and a cape, leads a ragtag group of 13 — count ‘em, 13! — Spartans to defend their homeland against the invading Persians (whose ranks include Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, the Transformers, and a hunchbacked Paris Hilton).
RAMBO
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Sam Elliott, Matthew Marsden, Paul Schulze
Synopsis: Twenty years after the last film in the series, John Rambo (SYLVESTER STALLONE) has retreated to northern Thailand, where he's running a longboat on the Salween River. On the nearby Thai-Burma (Myanmar) border, the world's longest-running civil war, the Burmese-Karen conflict, rages into its 60th year. But Rambo, who lives a solitary, simple life in the mountains and jungles fishing and catching poisonous snakes to sell, has long given up fighting, even as medics, mercenaries, rebels and peace workers pass by on their way to the war-torn region. That all changes when a group of human rights missionaries search out the 'American river guide' John Rambo. When Sarah (JULIE BENZ) and Michael Bennett (PAUL SCHULZE) approach him, they explain that since last year's trek to the refugee camps, the Burmese military has laid landmines along the road, making it too dangerous for overland travel. They ask Rambo to guide them up the Salween and drop them off, so they can deliver medical supplies and food to the Karen tribe. After initially refusing to cross into Burma, Rambo takes them, dropping off Sarah, Michael and the aid workers... Less than two weeks later, pastor Arthur Marsh (KEN HOWARD) finds Rambo and tells him the aid workers did not return and the embassies have not helped locate them. He tells Rambo he's mortgaged his home and raised money from his congregation to hire mercenaries to get the missionaries, who are being held captive by the Burmese army. Although the United States military trained him to be a lethal super soldier in Vietnam, decades later Rambo's reluctance for violence and conflict are palpable, his scars faded, yet visible. However, the lone warrior knows what he must do...
