Sixties pop star KATHY KIRBY is urging fans to "boycott" a new play about her life, because she disapproves of the show.
The 67-year-old Brit's rise to fame is documented in producer Graham Smith's U.K. stage show Secret Love, which reportedly features just a narrator and a female singer, but Kirby is desperate to distance herself from the play because she had no involvement in its conception.
In a statement she says, "I am taking the unusual position of issuing this statement to make quite clear my position. The concept he (Smith) is staging is not one I would wish my name to be associated with...
"Should the production, which is sold on my name, fail to meet the audience and critical approval, it would not be Mr Smith's or the girl singer's name that would be tarnished but my own. Because of this I would urge all my fans to boycott the production and not give it my support."
But Smith insists he never intended to offend the I Belong singer: "Miss Kirby is a gracious lady who deserves an Indian summer (celebration) to her career. I find it rather queer that she would ask fans to boycott a show which would do just that."
