MCAVOY HOPES ATONEMENT 'DESTROYS' AUDIENCES

Scottish movie star JAMES McAVOY wants movie fans to leave cinemas 'destroyed' after watching his acclaimed new film ATONEMENT.

The award-winning love story has left many in tears but the British star insists that's not enough.

He explains, "I hope, in order to feel part of a community, that everybody who watches this film comes away absolutely devastated and harrowed.

"I think it's an incredibly sad film... but if you share something that's utterly profoundly harrowing and horrible in a love song, in a poem, in a TV show, in a film... you're showing that upset person (in the cinema) that they're not alone.

"The artist, the poet, the painter... understands being human so well that they can impart that sad to that person and so that makes us feel we're part of a community."
