FOREIGNER ROCKER FIGHTING FIT 10 YEARS AFTER SURGERY

Former FOREIGNER star LOU GRAMM is set to mark the 10th anniversary of a brain tumour operation with a new look after using the medical crisis to turn his life around.

The I Want To Know What Love Is singer - real name Louis Grammatico - underwent the life-saving operation in March 1998 and now he's a clean-living fitness freak.

Gramm admits he knew he'd have to hit the gym after the surgery to combat the steroids he was taking, which made it look like he was piling on weight.

He tells WENN, "I started an exercise program regularly. I'm a member of the YMCA. I have a trainer. I'm on a strict regimen.

"The tumour and the operation definitely knocked me for a loop and the medication that I've got to take. probably for the rest of my life. mostly consists of steroids, which make you blow up like a balloon.

"That's been a tough one to deal with because I've spent most of my adult life at 145 pounds."

"I'm beginning to turn the corner; my doctor has been turning down that portion of my medication because I'm doing so well.

"Through abstinence and working out five days a week I've turned a lot of that to muscle and I've managed to lose about 35 to 40 pounds."

The rocker admits his brush with death has made him feel lucky to be alive: "I quietly celebrate that it's nice to be here. I think about my life differently for sure. I definitely take care of myself better and I know that life is a fragile thing."
