American rockers EELS were inspired to form after frontman E heard the work of British band PORTISHEAD.

E - real name Mark Oliver Everett - admits stumbling upon the trip-hop group's tunes on his car radio, and was so impressed he founded his own band in 1995 as a result.
He says, "I was driving down the road when I heard Portishead on the radio. I had to stop the car. They reminded me of the tapes I used to make only much more musical. Suddenly, there were endless possibilities and that's where the whole Eels idea took off."
And it's not just the Eels who were inspired by Portishead - last year (07) rap star Kanye West admitted he had taken tips from the band's use of orchestral arrangements in their tracks.
