BILL IDELSON DIES

Actor/writer/producer BILL IDELSON has died following complications from a hip injury. He was 88.

Idelson, who is best known for his role as Herman Glimcher on U.S. TV 's The Dick Van Dyke Show, passed away at a Los Angeles hospital last Monday (31Dec07).

Idelson, who had been hospitalised since June (07) after breaking his hip, appeared in numerous television shows including Dragnet, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, The Odd Couple, Happy Days and, most recently, Will + Grace.

He also wrote episodes of programmes such as The Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart, MASH and some of those he acted in like The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Twilight Zone, The Odd Couple and Happy Days.

Idelson won the Writers Guild Award for Best Comedic Effort twice - for episodes of Get Smart and The Andy Griffith Show.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, actress Seemah Wilder.
