CHRISTMAS TREE TURMOIL FOR THE SIMPSONS

Pop siblings ASHLEE and JESSICA SIMPSON never get to put gifts under a real Christmas tree - because their parents refuse to have one in the family home.

The sisters' mother has always been a big fan of Christmas, but she gave up on buying a real tree after a festive disaster when the girls were young.

Jessica recalls, "She put 5,000 lights on a real tree - the first time we'd ever had one. And she's yelling at my dad to help, and he's reading a book.

"We hear this scream, and my poor mum has fallen off her ladder into the tree, and all you could see were her little feet sticking out the bottom... We have never again had a real tree."
