TRUMP EYEING NORTHERN IRISH GOLF RESORT

U.S. property tycoon DONALD TRUMP is setting his sights across the Irish sea after his bid to build a $1 billion (GBP500 million) golf resort in Scotland was opposed by planning officials.

The Apprentice star had hoped to built "the best golf course in the world" in Aberdeenshire, which would house an eight storey five-star hotel, two championship golf courses and 950 timeshare holiday apartments - but the proposal was rejected by Aberdeenshire Council on environmental grounds.

However Trump now sees County Antrim in Northern Ireland as a feasible option for his dream golf site - and has 30 days to decide whether he will purchase the land.

Neil Hobday, Trump's project director, did not confirm the exact location of the proposed site, but insisted Northern Ireland was a serious option if the Aberdeenshire scheme was not green-lighted.

He says, "There are properties all over Europe that could be of interest to Mr Trump, but there is one in particular in Northern Ireland where we have signed a 30-day option to buy the land. The clock is ticking."

George Sorial, Trump's head of international development, adds, "We have said all along that the one (site) we are looking at seriously is Northern Ireland."
