LATEST: An investigation into sabotage at the Miss Puerto Rico Universe beauty pageant last month (Nov07) has now turned on the contest's winner, who alleged her gown and make-up had been dowsed with pepper spray.
Pretty Ingrid Marie Rivera claimed her outfit and cosmetics were tampered with backstage at the event, leaving her with a rash, hives and swelling as she performed a catwalk segment on the show.
Immediately afterwards, Rivera dashed backstage and had to plunge herself into an ice bath to recover.
She reported the incident to show organisers, who called in investigators in a bid to find the culprit but the San Juan forensics authorities have found no traces of the substance in the beauty queen's belongings, and now they're asking her if the story she told was true.
A police spokesman says, "I guess she has a lot of explaining to do."
San Juan police superintendent Pedro Toledo has told reporters he now plans to investigate whether anybody provided false statements to police officers, which is a felony.
Rivera has yet to file an official complaint. Police were called in after the pageant's security director alerted them to the alleged incident.
