WINEHOUSE'S MOTHER 'RELIEVED' AFTER TOUR CANCELLATION

The mother of troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE is relieved her daughter has cancelled the remaining dates of her U.K. tour.

The Back To Black star - whose performances have been criticised over her incoherent singing and delayed start times - abandoned her tour crew on Monday night (26Nov07) and subsequently scrapped all eight outstanding dates on the tour, which was due to finish on 17 December (07) in London.

And Winehouse's mother Janice has backed her daughter's decision to cancel the tour, insisting it is the only way for the 24-year-old to fully recover.

She says, "Amy's got to take the opportunity of getting herself fitter and stronger. She thinks she's strong but she isn't. I hope she uses the chance to fully recover.

"I hope she will take it easy for a while and then get back to writing new material. She has got to get herself clean. It is a matter of her personal survival."

Winehouse blamed her recent erratic behaviour on the stress of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's incarceration at London's Pentonville Prison. He was arrested earlier this month (Nov07) on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a charge of grievous bodily harm.
