Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has axed the remainder of her tour, just hours after fleeing her concert crew in Brighton, England to visit a top medical clinic in London.
Amy Winehouse got a taxi from her Brighton hotel in the early hours of the morning. Brighton, England - 27.11.07
The Back To Black star - whose performances have been plagued by reports of fans storming out over her incoherent singing and delayed start times - unexpectedly headed home last night (26Nov07) in a taxi after a gig at the Brighton Centre.
Today (27Nov07) Winehouse headed to the London Clinic - home to doctors specialising in such fields as breast enlargements, cancer screening, liver problems, pregnancy and gynaecological matters, among others - in the capital's famed medical centre, Harley Street.
The singer has been battling a drug problem since her reported overdose in August (07) and her troubles have been exacerbated by husband Blake Fielder-Civil's incarceration at London's Pentonville Prison, following his arrest earlier this month (Nov07) on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a charge of grievous bodily harm.
And fears are now growing for Winehouse's physical health after she checked into the clinic - which has previously treated Princess Margaret, who underwent surgery on her face in 1980; Charlie Chaplin, who was operated on for an impacted wisdom tooth; and Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who was a patient there in 1961 when she fell ill with pneumonia while in London to make Cleopatra.
However, the award-winning star's day got even worse when she left the centre - the taxi she had ordered was nowhere to be seen.
Surrounded by photographers, Winehouse made a futile attempt to locate the missing cab on the streets surrounding the clinic.
In a statement from her record company Universal, the star blamed her recent erratic behaviour on the "emotional strain" she has been put under following her husband's incarceration.
The statement reads: "Amy Winehouse has cancelled all remaining live and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor. The rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll. In the interests of her health and well-being, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues."
The singer herself adds, "I can't give it my all onstage without my Blake. I'm so sorry but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."
