JETER PROBED BY NEW YORK TAX BOSSES

MARIAH CAREY's baseball star ex-boyfriend DEREK JETER is to be investigated by New York tax inspectors who claim he lied about where he lives.

New York Yankees player Jeter claims primary residence in Florida - but New York state officials believe he spends most of his time at his Manhattan home and should pay them tax on all his earnings.

Inspectors plan to probe the player's whereabouts between 2001 and 2003. If he is found to have been lying he will have to hand over more than $250,000 (GBP125,000).

Law expert Steve Golden tells the New York Post, "New York goes after everything. Phone bills, credit cards bills, you name it, they go after it.

"New York goes after every little detail and puts together their own calendar to compare to your calendar."
