SEYMOUR WINS ROUND ONE OF 'PARTY HOUSE' BATTLE

Actress JANE SEYMOUR has won the first round in a battle with her neighbours over the 'raucous' parties held at her home in the English city of Bath.

Local residents want the star's 24-hour entertainment licence for the country house amended, and restrictions placed on the amount of traffic allowed near the property.

However, lawyers acting on behalf of the star successfully argued at Bath and Wansdyke Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (14Nov07) that traffic issues can not be considered in the case as they do not fall under the remit covered by the Licensing Act, under which Seymour's parties are legal. Court chairman Richard Curry agreed and ruled traffic issues were unconnected to the issue at hand.

Villager Mark Strutt also asked Bath magistrates to place restrictions on the licence, including an 11:30pm curfew and a maximum of 50 guests at each event.

Earlier this year (Sep07), the Seymour branded her neighbours' accusations "a storm in a teacup", and maintains the last party held at her home was in 2004.

The actress is currently living in Malibu, California, but rents the British property for $28,000 (GBP14,000)-a-week to wealthy guests including pop star Robbie Williams and rock band Radiohead.

The case continues.
